A Short Story, all my Own.

Dear All,

I recently contributed, to a bit of 'nonsense', started by Luna_Child. Very funny it all turned out too- DO see if you can 'Find' the Thread. So I thought that I'd try a 'Little' of my own...... (all 'set' in a non-Covid World)

Jackie ran down the road, towards the Paint Shop 'Oooh THAT 'Pink' is SO Perdy! (Pretty)' she thought to herself, as she rounded the corner. She Hurried past the Butchers, the Newsagents, the Launderette and Betting Shop ('stupid place, people spending money on Nothing.... might as well put it down the drain or- if they Really don't want it, give it to My Mum.).

Finally Jackie reached the paint shop and 'Yes' it was still in stock! Running up to the Counter, the shop had only two 'Other people' in it, she called out "Four Tins of that, Really Beautiful, Pink Paint please Carl". An Elderly Man slowly walked towards the Counter "Four Tins? Are you sure Jackie, it's rather expensive- Twelve Pounds, Seventy Five, a Tin." "Yes I am Carl" replied the excited girl "it's for MY new Bedroom- I've Got my 'Own' Room now. Daddy says I can have 'any colour I like', so I'm going to!" "OK Jackie" said the smiling Carl, then to himself 'oh to be eight again', then aloud "I'll deliver it later, about half past five, if that's alright?" the child indicated that 'that was fine', before running back out.

At the Weekend Jackie, and her 'Daddy'- Tom- visited the Large Furniture Store, on the edge of Town. It had a surprising good, selection in the Children's Section, and soon Jackie had selected a 'Brand New' Bed (rather than Charlottes 'Hand Me Downs'), along with a Dressing Table, Bedside Unit- complete with 'flowery' Lamp- and a Disney Wardrobe. Tom had been pleased to, it had 'only' cost- a little over- a hundred pounds... far 'cheaper' than he had expected.

Tom then headed for the Stores Café area... a Tea, for himself, a Coke for his daughter. They 'Shared' a large slice of cake.... Jackie eating the Lions Share. Before leaving they both used 'The Facilities' and then headed Home, Jackie 'singing' ALL the way.

A few weeks later, the girl, was sleeping her 'first night', in her 'Very Own' room. Waking during the night, Jackie had 'Sneakily' turned on the light, to look at the Beautiful Pink Walls... oh weren't they just 'Darling'! "Are you OK Sweetheart?" called a voice "Your light is on" Jackie's heart Jumped "Yes I'm Fine Daddy, I'm Just..." ".... Happy to be in your Own Room?" finished her Father, whilst entering. There sat his 'pretty' Daughter, looking around the newly painted bedroom, her toys- for once- on the shelves. A, very contented, look on her face. As Carl had thought a few weeks ago 'Oh to be eight again". Tom quietly crept, from the room, leaving the girl to her thoughts.

I think that this 'Works', fairly well, a bit 'Sugary' perhaps, but at the present time.....
