Hello again! Hope you're ok today?

Tomorrow is my lovely elder daughter, Laura's 38th (I think!) birthday! My granddaughter, Skye and I have spent all morning making a decoupage box as a present for her. I will be going over to their house tomorrow evening (we are bubbled :) ) for a takeaway. I will be taking Champagne, presents and coffee cake, which is her favourite! So sad that my son will not be able to join us, but that is how it is at the moment, so we just have to deal :( xx

Have you anything planned? xx

Hello I'm hoping to get our oils paints out if it's not too cold as will have to work in the loft as of the smell and mess this is a hobby me and mam used to enjoy so I think if we do things together that we enjoy it will be better for us. If there aren't enough that are useable I have 2 books to read hope you have a good one 😊

Helping people redo their personal statements

feeding and cleaning for the horses in the afternoon. We have a storm moving in so maybe some artwork?

Hi wiserlady, I'm thinking home baking this weekend. I'll do some bread (sourdough) and some cheese topped rolls, a few sausage rolls and another of the cakes which I discovered lately is delicious, which is a pound cake made with condensed milk. Then I'll do some serious eating and watching of catch-up TV or a movie or two!

How about you?

sounds better than sweeping up leaves all day - what was the other cake with the condensed milk?

in reply to wiserlady

It’s a really simple recipe I found online that just needs 1 & 1/3 cups SR flour, 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 3 large eggs, one regular size tin of condensed milk, 1/2 tsp salt and a little vanilla and almond essence (to taste).

Fits into a 9 x 5 inch pan which should be greased (or I used a paper liner).

Preheat oven to 325F

Soften butter then add all other ingredients and whisk well for at least two minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy. Bake in the prepared pan for around an hour, testing centre with a toothpick till it comes out clean. Cool 10 mins before turning out of tin.

Good as soon as cooled but for me tasted better next day! 😊

thanks - think quite a few things taste better a day or so later - my guy cannot eat gluten and is sick of the cakes you get in morrisons tesco etc which cost a fortune and are far too sweet for him

I can't bear ordinary commercially prepared cake for the same reason wiserlady. My husband is diabetic too, so can't indulge much in cake of any kind, but he can get away with the odd slice of something like that pound cake as its only sweetness comes from the condensed milk, and it's plenty sweet enough.

how many people are eating all of this ?!

in reply to wiserlady

Oh just the two of us wiserlady! 😊. The cheese topped rolls are already baked and nearly all consumed. The sourdough cob will go into the oven later today as I use a recipe which starts with a 'poolish' or an overnight mix of the starter, water and a little flour, so it's a long process. The sausage rolls are in the oven as I write this, but I confess I only used ready rolled puff, and they will do a couple of packed lunches for hubby on night duty this coming few days. (I'll devour the rest)! And the cake's very much cut and come again. It stays moist for days, so will see us through the coming week.

I have take-away lunch scheduled for Sunday.

We had some ditch-clearing scheduled today. The ditch drains a public footpath... but is heavy clay and it is raining today.
