To go back to swimming pool? Has anyone tried.....

Hi folks,

Have several issues going on with pain, arthritis etc and try to keep as active as possible. However the chronic pain has been very debilitating and feel things have been getting worse for some time now.

I received a text 2 weeks ago saying my local swimming pool was opening with obvious restrictions and I could now pre-book a place as I was a regular swimmer before covid hit. I have looked into it and on paper it appears like they are doing as much as they can to keep everyone safe. I would sooo love to get back in a pool and don't know if I am being overly cautious but still feel anxious about it.

My hubby was in the shielding category and we have been very careful and in fact haven't even eaten out since before lockdown. We are both almost 60 and don't know if it is selfish of me to risk going to a swimming pool.

Has anyone made this step? Was it alright and did you feel safe?

Thanks folks x

I can advise, from the other side, as I work in a, leisure centre, we've started, a few weeks ago with pre booked lane swimming, arrive with costume under your clothes, go straight to poolside, you get given a cubicle number for afterwards which is then returned to reception, and we know which cubicles need cleaning, that's the basics, where I am it is a one way system, can't speak for anywhere else, to the best if my knowledge, no one has complained in fact, some have said how well organised it is, we still have no lockers or showers, but so far all going well, the centre you use, do they have any social media pages you can look at, we put a, short film on ours so people knew what to expect

Hi LesE62, that looks like the very best advice you could have from Jennymary who has first hand information on how it's all being managed.

I just think that anything you do for the first time makes you very nervous. For me going on a bus for the first time made me unexpectedly very nervous, but once the ice was broken, I was OK. I say was, because there's been such an influx of students to this university city that I've decided to refrain from bus travel again for a while, but with pre-booking and controlled numbers, I'm sure swimming would be much safer!

Thanks for your reply and yes, I was reassured when I read Jennynary's reply. It does sound like what I think they're doing up here too.

My main concern was about bringing it back to hubby but will make a decision and see how things go. Its all about a balance isn't it as I feel my physical and mental health will def benefit to return.

Thanks again x

Yes LesE62, It's a question of balancing your safety with your health. So long as you feel reassured that the best safety measures are in place, it's good to look after yourself too. Not much point in surviving the pandemic to find yourself in ill health for other reasons.
