I accidentally posted this query in the PAS section and was met with a scornful reply and almost didn’t post again. However one really nice person posted a link which was very positive, but no actual experience responses. What I was asking was if anyone had heard of or experienced grounding as being useful for pain relief, anxiety, depression etc etc Apparently studies have shown that being connected to the earth either by specific grounding pads, walking barefoot or sleeping on the ground has positive effects on wellbeing. Other than actually contacting the earth physically it’s quite expensive, but as many will known, sometimes anything is worth a try. Looking forward to replies.

Hi Lurcher-lady, Sorry I didn't see your previous post but I have heard of "grounding". I have many diplomas (though probably out of date now) in which grounding was mentioned as balancing the mind & body. Sadly I don't know of any courses or treatment using this because like I mentioned my qualifications are, I expect, out of date now. I myself walk barefoot around my property as much as I can because in all of my training (Swedish Massage, Anatomy, Physiology, Reflexology, Stress Management & Indian Head Massage) we were taught that it is good for the soul, mind & body to walk as much as we can with our bare feet firmly on the ground. I hope somebody will give you a positive reply, in the meantime good luck & try to ignore the narrow minded keyboard warriors, there are more of us positive people that believe in the power of grounding etc. Have a good day xx
Thank you so much for your positive reply mena52. In the 50’s when I was a child my Mum, an orthopaedic nurse used to encourage us to go barefoot or wear natural shoes and now at 70, despite various aches and pains I still have good feet, but think that with the advent of plastic etc maybe we don’t get the same contact with the earth. I have purchased a grounding sheet for my bed and hoping it helps with my chronic pain. Will keep you updated.
I think you are probably right about the plastic issue for footwear. Great to see a good response from Jerry too. I have also heard of forest bathing & I believe Sweden adopts this especially for young children, so I'm told by my daughter who is a teacher & recently went on a course to learn about it. Please do let me know how the grounding sheet goes, it sounds very interesting. Thank you for reply & hope it helps xx
It sounds very interesting do let us know your findings, if you try it and your views about any effects you think it had. 👍🌈
Oops, I ordered a sheet Jerry, but do like to be barefoot as much as possible too. I shall make use of the expensive version overnight and keep you informed.
So good to see these lovely responses and not to be told how amusing I am. I’m maybe not bonkers after all 😃
Hello, Lurcher lady,
Yes,I know about grounding, it is important to me, as part of my spirituality.
It doesn't need to be expensive, you don't need to be 'taught' to ground. Anyone can do it, and its not difficult. Don't waste your money on paying someone.
It is an important part of meditative practice.
One of the easiest ways is to just walk barefoot on grass or soil, or even just sit with your feet on the grass, or in a stream, or sit with your back to a tree. preferably away from noise and people, this helps to bring you back within yourself. It is a quick way to help if you feel agitated or 'spaced out' by people or events which trouble you.
Another way is to sit in a park or open space, preferably with a pleasant view, and think of your spine extending down into the earth, and 'rooting' you, connecting you back with the Earth.
If you find you need to drown out noise, play some soothing music through headphones or earbuds. Do this for as long as you need to. there is no time limit.
Hope this helps,
Cheers, Midori
Thanks Midori. Too late for the expenditure I’m afraid, but it does come with a money back guarantee 😉, so if no improvement, I’ll be right back there. I do spend a lot of time outdoors, which is why I dread winter......I’m not a cold weather lover
I have never worn shoes except when shopping since1970,I lived in Singapore then, and got used to walking around barefoot ,at work I walked around with no shoes on, drive barefoot and walk around in the snow in winter(in the garden)I love it I can't stand slippers so I have found that easy. As for depression and anxiety I have had it seems like most of my life.i will probably have it till the day I die.
That’s very interesting Sweetsaphie, i’m sorry about your depression
