Intense Physical Pain!

AllTimeLow profile image
71 Replies

I'm in so much pain and it's getting worse. It is difficult to walk, sit, kneel or bend.

While laying on a bed motionless the pain in the legs is constant with frequent severe spikes of worse pain.

I am alarmed at how I'm going to get through the day at work tomorrow. It's nearly impossible to hide how much pain I'm in.

Hi AllTimeLow ,

Welcome to the group.😀👍🌈

Have you talked to your doctor about the pain? Are you able to get an appointment set up for later this week? When did the symptoms start? Are you on any medication? Are you allergic to anything food or medication wise?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

I started a new job Monday at 830 am. As the day wore on every physical movement became more difficult because of extreme pain. After work today it was difficult to even just walk slowly. Sitting down on bench in the bus shelter caused a pain spike 10 out of 10.

I can't get to a doctor until Saturday really, but previous doctor visits haven't helped.

How to make the pain stop so I can work.

Ibuprofen and Tylenol don't help much.

Do you have a hot water bottle? Ice bags?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

No hot water bottle. No ice bags. I got up a few minutes ago and tried to lean forward to touch the ground. Agony. It's going to be hell tomorrow.

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Do you have any physical therapy exercises you can do before bedtime/breakfast each day? How far do you have to go to get to your job?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

Hello. I don't have any physical therapy exercises to do before bedtime/breakfast. Tonight I lay down trying to get a break from the pain. Then I found out work start time was changed from 830 am to 7 am!

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Sorry for the delay.

Do you have an ice tray from the freezer and some Ziploc bags? You can fill the bags with the ice and also contact the doctor to let them know what you told us.

Hello. Thanks. I'm in the waiting room at the hospital. I came here right after work. It's very crowded. I'm not sure I'll get to see a doctor. It's almost 6 pm and I'll probably have to be back at work for 7 am.

No sleep at all last night. Pain and anxiety kept me awake.

My phone is going to run out of charge soon. Thanks for your replies.

I guess I can wait here until 9 pm.

The right hip joint just erupted with pain.

Thanks. Maybe I can get some pain relief here.

Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Ask the doctor and nurses for some new medication if there’s any issues with what you have tried already.

Please let us know what you find out soon after you get done with everyone tonight. Hope you feel better soon.😀👍🌈

Try to get some rest tonight.

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

Thanks. My phone is at 15% so I probably won't be able to respond for awhile.

It's going to be tough to just sit here for hours waiting.

Thanks.

Do you have a phone charger for on the go?

Ask them if they can do a test for neuropathy.

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

No on the go charger.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

I’m sorry to hear that. Try to relax and get some rest before you get seen.

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

I was waiting in the hospital waiting room when I realized the 4 hour wait time would mean I wouldn't see a doctor until perhaps 11 pm.

I'd still have to eat, shower and get ready for the morning meaning I'd probably not get to sleep until 1 am.

I probably have to be up at 5 am to go to work and no sleep at all last night.

So I left and got Motrin and went home. I'll try the hospital again tomorrow. Maybe the wait time will be less.

The pharmacist suggested getting referred to a pain specialist.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Having a pain management specialist sounds like a great idea. When can you set up an appointment with them? Did the Motrin help?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

On lunch break right now.

Two nights without sleep and all of this pain are sure making it hard to get through the day.

If I am off at 330 pm I could try the hospital again.

2 Motrin every four hours. I don't feel any better.

I am having anxiety. Nobody wants a fat, crippled old man working for them. Just keep going day to day I guess.

Thanks for your replies!

Hey, please don’t put yourself down. This will be better soon. It took a while for the right doctor to treat me for the cramping I was having back in 2012. It took some time, but it worked out eventually.

What did they say at the hospital?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

Hello. I went to a walk in clinic. She prescribed me 500 mg of naproxen 2 times daily. All it is, is Aleve. More bloodwork on the weekend. Results from previous bloodwork normal. No thyroid problem. She said come back in a week for steroids. I'm sitting in a massage chair at Planet Fitness right now. The doctor told me to lose 66 pounds. She said to look up polymyalgia, rheumatic fibromyalgia. The massage chair is providing some minor relief. I could sit here all day! Thanks!

Thank you for letting me know! I was hoping you would get some rest and information. When can you get the lab results after they do them?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

Hello. Get lab results in 8 days. The hydro massage is revealing to me just how sore I am from head to toe.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

It will help a lot with the pain. I had a rotator cuff issues years ago and I had to get physical therapy and before the Therapist had me do the exercises, she would do a massage to warm up the muscles a few times a week and had me do home exercises. They did a great job. Now, if I have some stiffness, it’s from weather change/temperatures.

Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

I will have to get some sleep in a few minutes. We can talk later tomorrow anytime you’re free. Good night and get some rest.😀👍🌈

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

Hello. Hope you are well. I am off today from work so the rest is very welcome. I have not slept since Monday night. I dropped an egg on the floor but could not clean it because I am in too much pain unable to flex or bend.

I went to the doctor today and showed the doctor how difficult it is for me to bend. The doctor told me I am doing very well and I need to exercise.

So I'm laying here in dread about Monday morning.

So frustrating.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Thank you for the reply.

Do you have a long item for reaching items up high or far distance you can use to use for cleaning up the egg? Like a mop, but lighter to push?

It’s good to know you were able to talk with the doctor. I’m sorry that you’re still not feeling good from the pain. I know it’s frustrating when a person has pain/not feeling good. What does your boss say about the pain you’re having during the work day?

Good morning, AllTimeLow . How's it going today?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

I've done nothing, but rest and have a snack today. The intensity of the pain has lessened, but flexibility hasn't improved.

Feeling overwhelmed.

Hope you are doing well.

Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

It’s good to know that the pain lessened a bit. What did you have for snack today?

I just got done with dinner now. I was up early this morning before 6 am because my CGM alarmed. But, other than that, things are going okay here for me.

That sounds good! I had a shake before breakfast today and a bar with a half small bottle of cranberry juice so far tonight after dinner. I will have to do another snack at 9:30 pm. Bar and a Greek yogurt.

What about trying to do office work that doesn't involve computers? Run errands for the other coworkers?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

I would have to look into that. Right now I am unemployed. No job. No income. I'm not sure whether to apply for welfare. I have no idea what I am going to do. The pain is a lot less severe now. I haven't done anything since Thursday except rest.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Can you call places and see if they are hiring for new employees and if they say they do, ask them for an interview?

Don’t apply for welfare, yet.

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toActivity2004

I've never called places before. I've looked up jobs advertised on Indeed and other job posting sites.

Why not apply for welfare yet?

Hope your day is going well.

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004 in reply toAllTimeLow

Indeed is a good site to use, but it varies with the results they give you.

I would wait until you can definitely know if you have to sign up or not. They have rules for how much you can get. If you can get a job in the next few days, you may not necessarily have to be on welfare. Sorry I didn’t explain it better before.

Hi, what is causing the pain. Some pain is difficult to manage. You need to speak with your Doctor to discuss all the options available to you. Is it possible to get an emergency appointment with your Doctor. 👍

happytulip profile image
happytulip in reply tobobbybobb

I agree. Pain can be muscular, skeletal, neuropathic, inflammatory, traumatic. Different types of pain requires different management.

I would get to a doctor as soon as possible. Generally gentle mobilisation is recommended for back pain and I find a TENS machine compliments my medication.

I hope you get some relief soon.

Hi

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain.

Like Bobbybob said could you get an emergency appointment for this morning? At our drs you can phone at 08:00 and get a same day appointment. Also, do you have patient access? I have this and it means I can go on line even before they open and get an appointment for that morning? Do you have out of hours GPS who I think would be available before your surgery opens and after it closes. I know it's early days with your job but have you explained how your condition affects you so that they can make where you sit more comfortable and maybe get up and have a little walk say just around your desk so that you don't stiffen up.

Thinking of you. Lots of love Lynne xxxx ❤️💜

I’ve never heard of that either. Just read up about it. That’s so interesting and great that it’s natural. Magnesium is supposed to help too.

happytulip profile image
happytulip in reply toAgoodenough

Magnesium is a smooth muscle relaxant so is absorbed into the skin and aids relaxation of tense muscles.

Epsom salts in a bath is a good way to absorb the magnesium.

Thanks for your reply. It's a physical job helping prep for painters. Bending and reaching all day. Walked more than 14,000 steps today, more than 6 miles. Today the elevator wasn't working so I had to climb stairs to the 11th floor. I got lucky after checking the elevator on the 6th floor and it was working.

So sorry AllTimeLow. It's horrible to be enduring intense pain. It's hard to know what would help as you haven't explained what causes your pain and what help you have had so far to try to alleviate it. From your reply below it seems that you have only had medications which are for lower grade pain. If you haven't had a diagnosis then please do make sure you reach out to a medical professional such as your GP, (family doctor) to try to obtain one. And do explain that, at the moment, medications such as ibuprofen and Tylenol aren't helping you enough. I see that you say you'll be able to consult a doctor on Saturday and sadly until then, there's nothing stronger you can take to get you through. Make sure you take your 'over the counter' medications as directed and don't be tempted to take more as this won't help and may harm you. The timing's certainly less than perfect with your having started a new job. Is there any sense by you that it is something to do with the new job which has induced this level of pain?

S11m profile image
S11m

Is the pain in the tendons, ligaments, muscles or joints?

Does your job involve walking, standing, shuffling about or what?

How much exercise did you get before you started work?

AllTimeLow profile image
AllTimeLow in reply toS11m

Hello. Muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons. Everywhere. Job involves bending to the floor, reaching high, lifting and walking more than 6 miles.

I walked almost 600,000 steps in July, more than 250 miles, the equivalent to almost 10 marathons, but that hasn't helped me at all.

Just sitting here in this chair right now motionless I can feel my legs and back throbbing from high intensity pain.
