What a way to spread the virus ...

I am all for mask wearing, hand hygiene and physical distancing ... but not in this instance. They would be better off not wearing masks. What a way to spread the virus ...

In general, wearing a mask prevents infection. The major reason that the death tolls in the West are so high is due to the reluctance of wearing masks. They had been misinformed.

That's horrifying! According to this we have by far the highest rate of deaths per 100k of anywhere in the world. I wonder why the other European countries aren't showing though.

I do think it's far too simplistic though to blame this solely on non wearing of masks, as there are many other factors in play too eg lack of tests available, the dire state of the NHS, and a whole myriad of things.

Basically our 'leaders' have made a total balls up from the beginning, and continue to fumble around not having a clue what they are doing. It's scary.

Well said. And yes, it's very scary.

Yes. But this is what the politicians do - they pick on one thing which has some truth in it to deflect blame from themselves. It's called spin. Don't fall for it.

in reply to hypercat54

True. I know what you mean. It's a variety of things that are to blameXxxx

The forum doesn't allow to include more than one photo, so it was difficult for me to add more info. I have since edited my post. You are right, the UK is NOT at the top of the list.

They have no blueprint to follow & are completely disorganised. However the reluctance of Brits to wear masks has contributed to the high death toll. We were out for lunch yesterday & we were the only 4 to arr. with masks, not one staff member was covered nor any of the other diners!!! On many hospital visits during lockdown have never seen a Police car. Young people think this Covid only affects older people, sadly not true, hence their behaviour en masse .

Sadly

I understand and agree with what you are saying. What I am pointing out is that the govt. Is trying to blame individuals and groups for not following the rules re masks and making out that this the main or even sole reason for infection rates and deaths in the UK. This way we can all squabble amongst each other and 'forget' about all the numerous mistakes and errors the leaders have made.

They can then pretend they did everything correctly, and thus can't be held responsible, but we were too stupid to follow the rules and guidelines. This is the oldest political trick in the book. All I am saying is don't fall for spin.

Iinks will not open, I dont take any notice of polls of government info, if I go out I wear a mask?

in reply to Veteran250

The link is not from the governments, it's from The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center (CRC).

You are right to not take any notice of most of the info on the Internet. We must apply common sense. Even though I'm all for mask wearing, hand hygiene and physical distancing, I'm very against general lock down which I believe it's a HUGE mistake, it has ruined more lives and is pointless, because there is no reason why the vulnerable couldn't do self-shielding and apply sensible protection themselves.

You are right about not being correctly informed but more accurately all of the public were lied to. An article in the New York Times by a doctor said has the advice backfired re masks do not protect the wearer. That was more than two months ago. Of course mask protect the wearer because any mechanical filter which includes masks filter both ways not one way.

Frankly the government think most people are gullible and will take in propaganda and that is what it was. The reasoning was to save the low stocks of appropriate masks for the NHS and other health workers.

The mask obtaining situation has always been unacceptable. I see the countries that knew what to do and how to behave clamped immediately on any masks being sold out of their country. The situation was ludicrous here and it's a good job the organisers did not have to organise gas masks in the war because they could not organise a drinks party in a brewery.

I still firmly believe any mask is better than no mask at all because if a virus sticks to any material rather than go straight into the airway of anyone there is a chance they may possibly die.......

This important situation is of course in the individuals hands.

Thank you Micklemus for the above important message.
