I’m new to this art, having from childhood loving sketching & painting (no longer a passion) , learning to sew by hand & machine, now not so neat with hand & have no machine, nor used one for over 30 years! I also learned to crochet after leaving school as during school learned I was no good at knitting!
I learned to knit, amazingly enjoying it about 2.5 years ago eventually able to make a simple card I for my new granddaughter 1st birthday ! Now can do a few patterns but have not ventured into other garments yet!
Then I decided to try Crochet & pick up skill from earlier, can now do a nifty granny square & make all sorts using them , also all sizes of basic stitches but haven’t tried making anything using other patterns!
I’m happy with the standard I have achieved with these 2 skills!
Then lockdown! And shielding as in very high risk group!
I discovered a group of people, online, (some I knew from another craft group which just gave tasters of all sorts of crafts), that were more papercraft orientated. Low & behold, I love this! I have even bought myself a machine for die cutting and embossing! I am learning at my own pace a little about the craft, making cards along the way, trying making organizers, a simple box, and slowly hope to do more!
Like all my crafts I am in serious lack of space as only in a bedsit (sheltered accommodation) & long to move to a bungalow!

Now that is something I have not attempted nor using a needle to save stitches as in Arran patterns!
Hi Jessie8ruff, I'm a fellow crafter and I know exactly what you mean about shortage of space. I have so much stuff and it's taking over our small 1 bed apartment. And while other crafters have the luxury of leaving things out, I have to painstakingly take everything out and put it back afterwards.
But it doesn't deter me and I know it won't deter you, because it's lovely to be absorbed in something that you enjoy.
You've done really well with keeping busy throughout the pandemic and I hope you enjoy for a long time to come! 🙏👍😊
I’m a crafter too lol ...it’s taken over 2 bedrooms in my house ....I have 4 different die cutting machines ...hundreds of dies lol ...also ink pads and stamps it’s very addictive once you start ...I’m in a few craft groups on Facebook and it’s very inspirational to see what everyone makes ...have you seen lou withers group...I think it’s called Jammas or something like that it’s brilliant....there are also destach groups we’re you can buy stuff cheaper ....welcome to your new addiction lol
I love card making too, I also sew bags, masks, dolls clothes, miniature teddy bears, I do pottery and fused glass - mostly at adult education classes but have some supplies at home, photography (including some darkroom equipment), jewellery making, occasionally I do lino printing or make pom-poms, I can do simple knitting and crochet.
I live in a small one bedroom flat and I have WAY too many supplies for my available space! I keep thinking that I need to give up a few hobbies but the trouble is I love them all!
I love all sorts of crafts especially card making. I own a card making group and am a member of a die cutting group and love swapping cards and ideas. Both io.groups
They set up when Yahoo groups started going haywire, it was someone who worked on Yahoo groups set up that started it. Must be four years ago now if not more
What does Reading Rabbits refer to? Also interested in what card groups you belong to & what group do you own?
Before lockdown I belonged to a couple knit & natter groups, one who initially taught me how to knit! Also another craft & chat group, half of whom belonged to my local WI, mainly doing knit, crochet & a variety of other stitching crafts!
Another group where each week someone would show the group how to do a variety of different crafts as tasters! The last group just met for lunch & a natter!
Then when lockdown started all these stopped but the organisers kept in touch! Then one lady started doing live videos on YouTube then changed to FB live where in the group were many ladies I already knew from other groups!
Sounds just like me!I love all kinds of craft especially cardmaking and cross stitch.I picked up crochet again during shielding and am making a blanket.Unfortunately accumulating craft materials can become quite addictive! It doesnt matter what size space you have it seems to fill up☺I've resisted the temptation to buy a die cutter so far.I love the 60s and found a psychedelic pattern book in a charity shop.It will be great for cards, decorating storage etc.Its also got a cd rom in it so I can print off extra papers.
