This is Old Ike again in the Sierra high country, one of his favorite places.

We do short walks now since he is 12 but it is worth it to see how happy this makes him.

He has been hiking/backpacking with us since he was 3 months old.

My heart goes out to those that have had recent canine losses posted here.

He has always enjoyed the water.

Clearly not too old to still enjoy his walks! 😊👍🙏

He goes a little slower but is still happy to go. We accommodate him for everything he has given us.

Brilliant, just wishing that l was Old Ike.

Such a lovely photograph, says it all.

We lost our West Highland Terrier end December 2019, Tiffany, she would have loved to have met Old Ike. She was a rescue furry, a real lady, quiet and had so much love to give. The house is so empty without her!

A special hug for Old Ike 🤗!

Every dog is a good one. Ike loves all dogs. I am sure he would have enjoyed playing with yours.

They leave us too early and with such an empty hole in our lives. Sorry for your loss.

It's comforting to animal and pet lovers like me that there are others like you who truly appreciate their pets. You know he loves viditing this particular spot and are happy to make him happy too. Lovely, heartwarming photograph.

Old Ike is a gorgeous dog and he looks so content in the water and it looks like there is plenty of life in the old dog yet. :)

And that is some of the best cool, clean water that one can find.

Thank you.

Hello daveh121

Thank you for your warm response, it is much appreciated.

Our very dearest furry friends definitely always leave us too soon. Tiffany as l mentioned was a rescue, she was about four years old when she was rescued from a breeding farm. Her white coat was thin and yellow, her paws were still pink from not walking outside, she held her head at an angle, absolutely no muscles.

When we went to view her at a rescue centre she walked into the room looked around and walked up to my wife, she picked this thin scrap up of a dog onto her lap and that was that. RESCUED!! She definitely knew who to go to.

I took on the task of training her, l would carry her to the local park for a walk, she had never seen or walked on grass before. She felt incredibly threatened and would not move, too terrified.

To cut a very long story short, eventually she would know her walk times, the sound of her lead and the excitement was so so wonderful. She ate well, trained well on all fronts, loved the family, was very wary of strangers and froze. She never barked at knocks on the front door or anything, too frightened. Eventually she started barking with excitement getting ready for her wonderful walks, that tells us that she was too frightened to bark at other times.

Tiffy was with us for ten years, ten amazing years! She was always my wife’s baby and would follow my wife around just like her shadow.

When she developed kidney problems we of course did all we could, she would cry with her pain, pain killers fortunately helped and worked well. My wife would sit with her and hand feed her and carry her to the garden, she enjoyed her last Christmas with her loving family and spoilt as always. The time came when we knew it was unkind to keep her and my wife sadly took her to the vet who knew Tiffy so well and he and my wife said their final goodbye. Tiffany was our very dearest rescue baby, she was given all that she wanted and more, she could twist her family around her beautiful paw. We did not ever mind.

We have now ‘rescued’ another beautiful furry friend, a puppy this time. A real rebel, the complete opposite to our Tiffany who will always hold a very special place in all our hearts.

We pray that your Old Ike will go on for many years and remain as well and happy as Old Ike is today. 🤗🙏❤️

Take care of yourselves, continue to have those beautiful walks! Kindest regards.

That is a wonderful story about Tiffany and the good life that she had. You sound like wonderful owners.Thank you for sharing.

It’s always hard when our pets begin the downward trend. But for all the joy they have brought us we do the best we can to ease their discomfort and try to bring them peace of mind.

You did well.

Hopefully you new dog will bring much enjoyment.
