I think I posted this on a different forum, not here.

This is Ike. After a long day of protecting what is important to him.

We have had him since he was 3 months old and will be 12 in August.

He has had a fun filled life of backpacking, growing up with our sons, hiking, and chasing things and is a favorite dog in our community.

He is good at keeping deer out of the veggie garden and chasing away bears. It is entertaining to see an 80 lb dog scare off a 500 lb bear. They run like the devil is behind them.

Black bears are sort of timid anyway and avoid confrontations so there is not much to worry about. However, we normally avoid it.

We couldn’t ask for a better friend.

I love him, he is beautiful old boy. What a wonderful life he is having. I wish I lived in a place where bears came into the garden. He looks so comfortable there. 😊🐕

Thank you. I heard a bear snuffling around the house awhile back, grumbling to himself in disgust that there was nothing to eat.

At least that is how I took his conversation with himself.

How cute & gorgeous he is! We can learn a lot from animals they are always so trusting, faithful & spiritual & can often pick up from us humans so many emotions. I so miss my dog but unfortunately he has passed to doggy heaven & I am unable to have another due to restrictions on my leased property, however I can still enjoy petting friend's dogs (while social distancing now!). Enjoy your dog, he's a wonderful asset to your life & thank you for your posting. x

Gorgeous looking dog! I love German Shepherds, and he mush have great fun protecting your garden from big critters. We don't have bears in UK, unfortunately, but deer can be a nuisance unless you live in a town.

He's wonderful daveh121 and clearly a faithful friend and companion. I hope he'll have many more days ahead of him to spend as a treasured part of your family🙏🌈

He looks like a wonderful dog. I am not a pet lover but if I ever wanted one he is exactly what I would want. Perhaps because I've always felt comfortable with them as my father used to train them and so they were the obvious choice for family members even though we did not have one. Looking at him I feel quite envious.

He does like to sit on his bed on the porch a bit more these days, watching the world go by, but is always up for an adventure.
