This is "Bud" (registered as Swifty's Taylor Made) a fancy racing quarter horse who I take care of and occasionally ride very lightly. He's 29-1/2 which is the equivalent of about 84 years old in a person, but he's in spectacular shape for his age. Took the picture two days ago.

He's handsome and also looking really amazing for a gentleman of more advanced years!
That's what he tells me. He also chases after my car whinnying when I come in to feed him.
He's looking good! A friend of mine had a TB mare who kept going well into her thirties, still fit enough for riding until she had to have a year off due to an accident with the farrier. I was riding her until then and she was still throwing the odd buck and loving life.

Horses can live to be about 30.
He's a handsome gentleman!
Does he like eating mints?
Around here, we have quite a few that make it to 35 (my old Arabian gelding was about 34 when he passed). Good care makes a difference - when I was a kid, 28 was quite old for a horse.
PS... yes on mints and apples, too.
Horses are like us if they are well cared for they live longer.
SO TRUE!
He's wonderful... And looks in great shape for his years.. I haven't ridden in years but I grew up around horses... My mother still competes in cross country and dressage. Going home is great fun getting to spend time with the horses... They are the only animal I know that gives you that eye contact and sence of connection.
Yeah... I did the math, he's about "84" in people years, but he's like those master runners for fitness. His farrier says he looks about 20 (equivalent of 60). So cool that your mother still competes! The ranch manager where he boards used to be a jumping champion and trainer, so these days she helps 4-Hers and returning riders (like me) with dressage exercises and such. It's pretty great.
It's wonderful your riding and don't just have pasture pets... I'd love to ride again... I was the only boy in pony club when I was younger... It was great fun... I can't ride any of my mothers horses sadly.. She's very petite and has nothing over 16 hands... And I'm 6'4".....she also has some exmoor ponies one of which she rides... They are an endangered breed but wonderful creatures, so shore footed. Its terrifying watch g them chance eachother down the hillside.
Your horse has obviously been well cared for being so fit and healthy for his age.. Some anomaly refuse to grow old gracefully
Wow, 29 years old, Bud's done well hasn't he 😍👌
He really has. His owner was diligent about his care, which is how he came to me. I do his care, she pays his retirement bills (which are probably 1/3 what they would be anywhere else). We sometimes call him "the only actually free horse in North America"! I didn't have the resources for two, but it's still less expensive for her to retire him (mostly) this way than to board him where she had to move to (for her husband's health - btw, that worked out well for him!) Since being with me he gets a little exercise most days, and has lost a bit of weight. He was a bit over last year, but I think he's just about perfect for his size right now. (He's about 16 hands, which means I often use a mounting block to get up there!)
Another beauty and another hug from me please - dogs and horses are my favourite animals - very spiritual. xx
He is beautiful and I remember you have mentioned Buddy a few times. He is obviously very well looked after.😊👍
