Heart palpitations anyone?

Hi. I'm new to the group so hello everyone. I've had anxiety all my life. I am 50. I came down with a virus 9 days ago. I had a Covid test and it was negative. So I feel ok about that. I have felt very ill though but feel I've turned a corner today. The only problem is I am having regular heart palpitations. I do have an ectopic heart beat (extra beat every 200) but I've never noticed it like this before. I'm wondering if it is because of the virus? I've been under a lot of stress lately and I have also just changed hayfever medication to one I've never tried before. Any advice anyone?

Hi angelteejay. I have just replied to you on the other forum but welcome to this forum too. As I said, we aren't qualified to give out medical advice here so you should really contact your GP, especially as it's to do with heart palpitations and an ectopic heart beat which you've never noticed before. Good luck with it. xx

Don't worry, I just hope you can have a word with your GP and hopefully, he can put your mind at rest. Don't forget to let us know how you get on. All the best. xx

Hi angelteejay, I've suffered undiagnosed palpitations and tachycardia (fast heart beat) for more than three years now. Mine comes and goes and if there's one thing I can tell you that might help you worry less, it's that if yours isn't continuous then it's not a medical emergency. I'm just monitored without medication as it wasn't felt that anti-coagulant medication is relevant for me at this stage and I declined beta blockers which are the other common medical treatment, because they made me sluggish and sleepy all the time.

The long term danger comes from potential stroke if your heart isn't beating efficiently too much of the time. So you should check it out via a talk with your GP and I expect they will try to find the cause for you, but it can be a very frustrating process unless it's continuous.

I have read that palpitations can occur post covid, so that may be a cause, but as always, do discuss this with a medical professional. Each person needs a diagnosis and/or advice from someone qualified to help. Take care and I hope you get to the bottom of this. 🙏😊

I had a Covid test and it was negative. I only had the test as I had a cough and I’m a teacher so had to be careful. The cough ended up being productive and I had lots of other non Covid symptoms like ear ache, sinusitis etc so I’m sure it’s not that .

Hi. I would definitely check with a doctor, but if you would like some guidance with anxiety in general, take a look at getselfhelp.co.uk

It's recommended by the NHS. There is a lot of useful stuff on there, so have a good root around.

I used to have terrible anxiety, but I through therapy and changing how I think, I am a very different person now.

Best wishes. 🙂🌸

I would say not to worry but check with your GP.

I DEFINITELY think you should contact your PCP (Primary care Physician) immediately. Best wishes. And feel better soon.

Hi everyone. I contacted my GP who thinks the combination of a pretty nasty viral infection together with high emotional stress has caused these palpitations. Tiredness also makes them worse and I am exhausted. If things don’t settle I have to go back but they should do plus I was reassured my recent heart test and ECG was excellent.
