I live in a busy city location but when I got up this morning, it was exceptionally quiet, even for a Sunday morning in lockdown. No cars, no-one shouting, no loud music and only the twittering and cooing of birds to be heard.
That made me think about finding a quotation on the subject of Sunday, and I liked this one, which came from Samuel Willoughby Duffield (1843 – 1887) who was an American clergyman and author.
"Sundays, quiet islands on the tossing seas of life".
Even in lockdown, Sunday has a mysteriously different feel to it. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the lifelong habit of having treated it as a day of rest? I don't know! What does anyone else think?
I hope that, whatever you're doing, this Sunday will be a pleasant one.

An excellent quote for a Sunday.
You are right Sunday's do seem quieter even though we've had retail opening on the day of rest for quite a few years now. I'm quite surprised though with today's busy lifestyle that they are still restricted opening hours for a Sunday but I'm glad about that.
It's much quieter here today with traffic.
Have a lovely day.

Hi
How are you feeling today?
A great quote. It does seem quieter than normal. I was pleased to see on the news yesterday that the majority had stayed away from the seaside etc. Take care and stay safe Love and hugs Lynne 💞🤗

Hi Lynne, I was unwell overnight, but felt better on waking and apart from feeling oddly tired, I'm pretty much back to normal now. I hope you are doing OK too. Yes, I too was glad to see that people have been pretty sensible with congregating, by and large. Take care too and enjoy the rest of your day. 🦄🌺🌈🦋😊

Thank you. Not been too good tbh, all my conditions cause pain but got to keep smiling 😊. Take care and stay safe Lynne xxxx ❣️🤗
It has been very quiet here for weeks but today it sounds like Christmas Day! One or two cars that's all. Very odd indeed as the weather is not too bad.
Personally I preferred it when the shops were closed and it was more of a family day.
Fond memories of Sundays as a girl. Always a delicious Sunday meal and mums baking
No rushing about.
The only thing I disliked was helping to clear the endless privet cutting.
Feeling miffed when Mum and Dad snoozed on the settee.
Happy days.
Hi Lynd, I think Sundays do often bring up memories of childhood. Family Favourites on the radio and a Sunday roast in the oven. A walk with my dad with a big sack of vegetable trimmings and potato peelings which was passed on to the 'pig' man who raised them for meat. Sunday school and after tea, bath night! Ready for school on Monday! As you say, happy days!
We have the M1 running behind our estate, since lockdown started it's been so peaceful. Sadly since they announce the changes to life as they try to ease us out of lockdown, it's been horrendously noisy. Mind you, we also live near an airport and the number of freight planes coming in was also horrendously noisy. Give me a nice quiet city any day.
