So we're back!!! For the benefit of community members who have recently joined this happy band of self isolating people, welcome, this started a couple of months ago, I live on my own and one day just wondered what anyone else had been doing, so please feel free to join in if you want to, sharing anything happy, sad, good or bad and if you don't want to share that's fine as well.
So following my enforced break, today has been nice and quiet, just changed the bed, did the washing, have, without looking for it, found a few more bits of rubbish to dispose off, but I think this week I'll be catching up on housework as much as anything as that's been neglected over recent weeks.
I've enjoyed the recent threads on traditional sweets, following my reply about my Grandad eating Murray mints, it reminded me of my Grandma making egg custard (not tarts), which then reminded me of eating steamed marmalade pudding and custard, rice pudding I liked mine nice and thick and I loved the skin, I took it in turns with my brother to finish what was left in the dish, sago, tapioca, rice creamola, jelly & blancmange, anyone remember any of these

Hi Jennymary
Glad to see you back and I'm sure, like, many regulars have been thinking of you.
I was on the computer this morning updating my low fodmap diary I hadn't done it for about 4 days, so I'm pleased to have got that done.
We saw our youngest daughter and her girls today in the garden which was lovely, really enjoyed it. Also the weather has been lovely.
Oh my goodness you've mentioned a few puddings there that I loved as child, I used to pinch the skin off the custard as I loved it so much.
I'm now back out in the garden enjoying the weather particularly as it's changing after tomorrow and gets colder.
Have a lovely relaxing evening and welcome back into the fold.
Take care and stay safe.

Yesterday I went to visit my sister in law at her place and talked over the garden fence and she is fine and says i am doing really well with the job hunting.
Got the phone call this afternoon at 2pm saying I hadn't got the job i did the phone interview for last Thursday as someone else had more experience and after the call I got my things and went out for an afternoon walk which I enjoyed.
I wasn't upset though over not getting that job but main thing is I can honestly say that I tried my best.

Thats lovely to see your sister in law and yes you're doing well on the job hunting. Some companies already have people in mind for some jobs but they'll be the perfect job for you out there.
The good thing is they rang you, you can't fault that. Also you can't do any better than your best.

if it's true that they had picked someone unofficially before anyone went to interview then it's not a place I want to work at anyway!
I was glad when they rang as when you get the result you can move on even if it's not what you hoped for.

Quite agree, unfortunately many places do that, where I worked used to and that wasn't a nice place to work.
I agree, you can now look forward, I always say there's the perfect one for you out there.👍🌈

Its just that we haven't found each other yet!
I have applied for a couple of jobs today that I was interested in.
At least they called you and gave you a reason nothing worse than not knowing and wondering if did something wrong. Hope you.find something soon. The right job will be out there and as you say you can.but try
I have been out for a walk both this morning and one this afternoon after I heard back from the job I interviewed for last Thursday saying I hadn't been successful as someone else supposedly had more experience so when the call had finished I got my things and went out for an afternoon walk and felt better afterwards.
Today i have also been on future learn which I have enjoyed and this evening start a new book and watch a film.
Tomorrow I am doing some phone interviews one at 11am and one at 12.30pm.
Thanks. I have had them now and the first one said they will come back to me by the end of this week and the second one said they will let everyone know as soon as possible but one thing is certain is that I went away from them feeling I did my very best.
Great to see your regular thread back Jennymary. I've been doing the chores. My knee is giving me a bit of jip. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I am meeting my sister at my mum's , we will sit in the garden and social distance, it's been a while since I saw my sister, so we will all have a good chin wag. I'm going to the shops soon. There shouldn't be any queue, hopefully. I hope you have a lovely evening. xx
To be fair it's a lot better now than it was back in March with the panic buying fiasco when I called at sainsburys to donate to the foodbank there at 2pm and there were the empty shelves.
This morning I was delighted when I got my full prescription in one go as recently it has taken 2 trips so this morning when I got the full amount in one go I was absolutely delighted!
Here in cardiff at the local sainsburys at 2pm one afternoon all that had been left on the fresh food section was fish and the uncle Ben's rice that people didn't want to pay extra for and gluten free items as nearly everything else had gone.
Thankfully with us personally we didn't lose out as even before this kicked off we had always kept a well stocked pantry just in case there was an emergency and that pantry being full when this started was a lifesaver but I was angry for the less fortunate who live week to week having to have gone without when there was no need for it.
In our Lidl everything had gone even my gluten free bread and pasta which never sells out people had taken that as no ordinary left no milk at all including my lactose free and long life. It was literally stripped bare
Hi Jennymary, I'm pleased you feel ready to come back and let us know what you are doing daily. And gives us an opportunity to share what we've been up to, too.
Having a good household routine can be quite comforting I find. My days are becoming less and less routine as I drift from thing to thing and my only anchor is the regular preparation of meals, and baking, both of which I enjoy. I'm also pretty disciplined about coming to look at what'a happening at the Positive Wellbeing community, though I have to work that around my husband's work shifts.
Oh you've mentioned a lot of foods there that I remember from the past. I too was very fond of rice pudding and, on a Sunday afternoon, because we had no TV I was invited to view Children's Hour at our next door neighbours, and given their leftover rice pud which they always had for pudding on a Sunday! And Creamola! I'd completely forgotten that. Was anyone else ever offered thin slices of bread and butter with their jelly? We didn't do that at home but I had several aunts who wouldn't have dreamed of offering jelly without the bread and butter as an accompaniment.
Haha I was a midwife and I'm still in touch with one family I delivered little girl in 1982 and i often tell her i was first person to smack her bum so better behave LOL
Our granddaughter is a third year student midwife. She’s just been awarded a 2.1 and now she is finishing off her placements. Yesterday she delivered a little girl called Isabelle on her granddad’s birthday
Aww that's lovely. I remember ringing my mum to say delivered first baby but couldn't speak, she said you've delivered a baby haven't you? I said how did you know? Because your speechless she said......doesn't happen often
Went to a small outside gathering yesterday for a friend who is starting treatment for aggressive breast cancer. It will take months to get done with the chemo and radiation.
My wife cut friend’s hair short which actually looks pretty good. Our friend’s son shaved his head in support.
She has a good attitude and is a strong person so we are hoping for the best.
Today was a great bike ride through the hills, later will be a birding walk and picnic by a river with the dogs.
We decided cleaning can wait for a bit till things get really disgusting.
How did she manage to cut the friends hair with social distancing in place, we are all trying to find ways to do it? Difficult as the only person in my household is hubby and he has dementia so daren't let him near my hair with the scissors, but I am getting desperate. Daughters will be allowed in garden now, not seen them in ages, but obviously they won't be able to cut my hair from two metres away, but not sure I trust them anyway! Be glad when this nightmare is over.
Hope your friends treatment goes well. My mum and 2 sisters had breast cancer, unfortunately mums came back in bones after 8 years and died but both sisters doing well.
How lively of sun to shave his head in support and friend has better chance of keeping hair if short nowadays with cold cap they wear during treatment.
Hi and welcome back, Jennymary ! Glad to hear that your day went well.
My day was really busy with going online, doing replies to postings, doing some editing, replied to messages on and off HU, had breakfast and lunch, printed out some info. that I needed and now just sitting waiting for a call on video chat from my brother and his family. Later this evening, I plan to have dinner and then do some reading and also get the Word Scramble Puzzles typed up and posted before bedtime tonight for the next morning,
Bought hairdressing scissors and thinning scissors, what fun I’ve had, I cut hubby’s hair and it’s not too bad apart from a little bit at side of his head lol, his glasses hide it. I also decided to cut my own fringe and mmmm not such a good job, hope it grows quickly is all I can say. My daughter and grandson came to see us in the garden which was lovely but hard not to give a cuddle. My 6 year old grandson kept telling me about the 2 metre distance which is very hard to stick to it. He even had a tear in his eyes when he left as I always give give him a cuddle. He clearly doesn’t like this rule he told us.
Rice pudding skin. Yum yum. Can still taste it now and not had it for must be for over 40 years! Don't really like apple pie, BUT my Mum's was the best!!
I'm pleased your back and doing ok but don't rush the 'byword it will still be there tomorrow. Isn't it amazing how easily we can find rubbish but not the thing we want??
I love all the afore mentioned desserts and in.school dinners as I was table monitor in.charge of dishing out and others didn't like them I always got a BIG bowl full. Everyone had to.have a bit in their bowl to show tried it at least. And home made rice pudding with skin on top can't be beaten but there were 6 of us in our house to fight over who got skin!!!! And it was best served with a dollop of strawberry jam in. I even like cold rice pudding and cold custard with a banana.
I've been sorting out my garden re potting some plants into bigger containers and just enjoying the nice weather though Archie not a fan as he's SOOO overdue a haircut. But he's sensible and sits in shade or takes himself back inside and I usually find him in.bedroom or bathroom as coolest rooms in house. Its supposedly going to change Wednesday and even rain so then I'm going to sort out my wardrobes and get rid of all the bigger clothes to charity shop when open. Gave a dress to neighbour this morning.
Picked up my blackwork again other day to finish off kept putting off doing the border as had to work out where to start as it said start 100mm up and only 80 mm at bottom.
Hope everyone.else we'll and having a productive time
Oh yes, I remember when we had a pudding every day.
Sago was a firm favourite of mine, but I also like Steamed Pudding or as we called it Rolley Polley pudding or Spotted Dick which had dried fruit in it. Rice pudding with nutmeg sprinkled on top. Those were the days !
I have been busy tidying shelves in my cupboards and having a throw out, or putting things aside for local Charity Shops. And I'm growing some vegetables in containers on my decent sized patio area, which is all I have, as I live in a ground floor flat. Apart from keeping me busy, neighbours and friends have stop for a chat over my hedge
