Dentist

So we went to the dentist because I cracked a tooth. They are all closed here except for emergencies. It was only me and the dentist.

It’s a 3 hour round trip to town from here. We got there and the power had gone out.

The dentist tried to use her headlamp but the battery was dead since she hadn’t used it in several months.

Nothing in the office worked and I felt like I was sitting in the barbershop in the Wild West waiting for the barber to come out with some blacksmithing tongs to pull the tooth.

She determined, using some very creative techniques, that I probably need a crown with no root canal. I am happy about that. I go back next week and am bringing a generator.

The best part was getting a take away Chinese lunch. Just think: we didn’t have to cook it, clean up afterwards, and it was really good.

We ate it in the car, in the rain, by a park, since the park was closed.

On the drive home we came across a vehicle that had rolled over and was blocking the road. We are equipped for that.

After determining there was no one around and that the car was stolen we used the ham radio to call it in since there is no cell coverage there.

Another fire fighter stopped by to help, Highway Patrol arrived, tow truck followed and got things straightened out.

We left for the dentist around 9am and got back around 5pm after some grocery shopping in town.

What a great day.
