Cow and calf

In my "Cows and Oaks" picture - there were calves in the field - but you could not see them in the picture.

healthunlocked.com/positive...

I went past the field on a different walk the other day - and I was able to get closer to them... I waited for them... and they kept getting closer.

I took several pictures - perhaps it would be better to post two pictures so that you can see the whole picture?

They certainly are getting 'up close and personal' here. 😊

I was leaning over a fence.

Cows tend not to be aggressive - but they can so so inquisitive and friendly that you can, sometimes, stroke their faces - and, occasionally, I fell in danger of being trampled. 10 tons of bovine can take a lot of stopping.

Indeed. It is best to be a bit cautious, especially in a group of them. I remember my time living in the Caribbean where cows, if not tethered, tend to amble off. Many times on an early morning walk, one or two would join me in a very non-aggressive way.

You tend to only be in danger if you run away from them - if they get too boisterous and too close it is best to stand your ground and swear at them!

I shall remember that bit of advice S11m!😀

Yes, very friendly looking, but may want to stand back a little to be on the safe side. :-)

Cows are one of my favorite farm animals to see when going to the County Fair.:-)

Yes… I was behind a fence, and using the two times lens.

I do sometimes stroke their faces - but you need to keep an eye on all the animals near you.

Can I sound a note of extreme caution around cows with young calves. They are very beautiful, but they can be extremely protective and can be very dangerous. Especially if you have a dog with you. Every year walkers are killed by cows, they can be more dangerous than bulls. I know on this occasion you were behind a fence, but just as a general point of information.

Yes - bovines are large, and can be curious and playful.

I have never tried to get between a cow and her calf.

I think that people do not usually get trampled unless they try to run away.

I am a farmer’s son, and I have worked with cows.

Be careful not to get too close, cows can be very unpredictable, especially with calves around & your dog, hope he is on the lead !!!

I stroke their faces with care.

Hello S11m, just was looking at your cow picture. Tell you a funny story i grew up in the country and my aunt and uncle lived close to us and you could get to their house thru our pasture and when my sister and I was kids we would walk thru our pasture and thru their to go to see them. My uncle had cows in their and one huge bull and we were told that bulls don't like the color red well guess what one day my sister had on a red shirt and we saw the bull and here he came and I told my sister you got to take off that red shirt or he was going to attack she started crying and running and the bull was right behind us I was like take it off so she did! We outlived the bull attack ha but my uncle died laughing at us when we got to his house and told him about it and I was laughing and my sister was fuming i told her but you saved our life. Lol
