COVID-19 possible recovery strategy

The treatment for COVID-19 with high pressure oxygen is the same as with pulmonary toxicity. In 2014 I had pulmonary toxicity that reduced my blood oxygen to 76%. In hospital I refused to be admitted to an ICU, to be sedated and put on mechanical respiration as I knew the survival rate was 50%. I was put on 15 to 20 litres of 70% high pressure oxygen / minute for three days and given prednisolone. Having survived, I was told that from now on I would need probably need oxygen and a wheelchair; I was later told that I had been close to death. I took prednisolone for a year and despite the prognosis, I didn’t require oxygen and a wheelchair; in fact I've now passed one million metres on a rowing machine. The Consultant team from North Bristol Lung Centre who treated me submitted a paper on the case to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

That's an inspiring story - thank you for sharing

Oh wow, that's an incredible post and I'm so pleased for you. You sound like a very determined man John.

I'm so glad the paper was submitted, this is something maybe to learn by.

Keep up the good work as exercising on a rowing machine, that's amazing.

Keep well and stay safe.

Alicia 😊

The care that I had from the NHS North Bristol Lung Centre at Southmead Hospital was magnificent. My diagnostic scans were viewed at Professor level, the ICU Consultant said that although he was at home for the weekend he had left a message that he was to be called in if my condition deteriorated, when I thought I was French and I was in France (!) a nurse sat with me talking through the night. I have also had and continue to have great care at Southmead when I had a stroke and, now that I'm "suspicious" for prostate cancer. Also I musn't forget the Bristol Heart Institute for a recent overnight stay. You and I are lucky to have brilliant NHS facilities in Bristol.

Couldn't agree more. All the best with the prostate cancer - hope they nip it in the bud. x
