Another cycle ride roday

โ€ข71 Replies

Hi all

I decided to get on my bike again today as I needed something from the pharmacy.

I cycled into our local city centre and took the long scenic route home, those hills seem to get steeper๐Ÿ˜‰, 17.5 miles later I was home.

Only one photo if the country I'm afraid today - enjoy.

That's a good ride! And looks beautiful. Everything now seems to be that lush green of spring. Thank you ๐Ÿ™

Yes Spring has sprung, it's beautiful this time of year.๐Ÿ˜Š

You are certainly living up to your name crazyfitness. You must be so healthy and fit!

I hope you've got a comfortable saddle though, as most tend to be really uncomfortable I'm told.

Cheers C x

โ€ข in reply toRoadRunner44

Thank you Chrys, I love my bike.

I bought a saddle cover but it still hurts a little, think I need to raise the saddle.๐Ÿ˜Š

Covers are not the way forward. Your saddle needs to support the two bony protrusion of your hip bones that we all sit on. Once this is done, it takes the weight/pressure off "soft tissue" and

makes for a more comfortable ride. Female specific saddles reflect the gender differences in hip bones; the bony points being set wider in women.

That's the physiology of it but at the end of the day, it's down to personal preference.

Happy peddling!

โ€ข in reply toIanGordon

Thank you Ian for your reply.

It's the bony part where I can feel it. I am going to adjust the saddle first as I think it may be a little low, I did think that yesterday when I was peddling uphill.๐Ÿ‘

IanGordon profile image
IanGordonโ€ข in reply to

Saddle needs to be level, so if sloping upward would cause comfort issues.

Worth checking.

Saddle height should let you almost fully extend your leg on the downstroke but also be able to have both feet in contact with the ground, albeit maybe tip toes.

Fine tuning can make all the difference :0)

โ€ข in reply toIanGordon

Thank you Ian. I know about where my legs should be but didn't think about the sloping, I will have a look at that.๐Ÿ™

Hello IanGordon

I need a saddle 2 feet wide, but have not found one. :)

That was a long bike ride. You have some lovely countryside where you live.

I have not been outside into town now for about three weeks. We do not see many people as we are in lock down. However we do go for walks with the Dog, Pax My Wife takes Him out in the morning and I go out for exercise with Pax in the afternoon. Shopping is delivered and meds brought here for me.

We have been gardening today so I am still very sore

BOB

โ€ข in reply to

Thank you Bob, I'm fortunate to live in the country.

I don't see many people when I'm out and out city centre is beautifully quiet so easy to keep a distance.

That's an excellent idea as yiu both get your walk, animals give yiu so much pleasure.

Keep safe๐Ÿ˜Š

โ€ข in reply to

You as well enjoy the peace

Keep a hold and be safe

I've noticed that I'm able to walk much further (still relatively short distances) locally due to improved air quality I think.

Thank you Jerry, it was hard work as I had a heavy rucksack on my back and it was a headwind, always a headwind.๐Ÿคฃ

Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I am English, I was born in Lincolnshire (a Lincolnshire Yellow Belly). I left to get what I hoped was a better living in Nov 1964. I have had an interesting life, I came back after 3 years, homesick, but found out too late I was homesick for Calif. came back, became a citizen so I could sponsor family members and Vote.....That's a whole other story. So I live here and enjoy my life Now, it has been hard and painful at times, but I have made it thru. Therapy was a godsend, and medication to help me with my depressions and anxiety attacks. I am proud to say I get up happy and go to bed happy. I just went thru 3 years of hell with my faulty brain, but now on med's that help and a wonderful therapist who has helped me to understand my illness. I admire you and wish you well, keep healthy, I am sure the bike rides will help with that, especially if the sun shines and you get the Vit. D. Sending as always out of my well of love with lots of hugs.....Sprinkle 1..... :-) :-) :-)

A very interesting life you've led and I'm so pleased you are in a very happy place now. It's also obviously your grit and determination that's got you there. How lovely to go to bed happy and wake up happy.

Stay safe and take care.

Glad you like cycling and hills, I hate hills, got one from my flat to river nearby only short hill and often watch other people running up it for exercise. Never have liked hills used to find it easier to walk up them backwards, while looking over my right shoulder, got some strange looks but could get up hill quite fast like that. I find it even worse going down hill. Live in a hilly part of the U.K with lovely scenery though and near the sea. Glad you enjoyed your ride to and from the pharmacy.

โ€ข in reply tocatblue1865

It's more of a challenge for me, I kind of set myself these challenges. I can tell though I do need to get some more strength in my legs for sure as i could really feel it.

Now running up a hill is a different matter, that's very hard and I'm not keen on it. It's whatever works for you and if you can safely walk up backwards then why not I say.

I also live in a hilly part of the UK, the rolling Devon hills but it is beautiful. Lake District is my ultimate favourite though.

Have a good day, stay safe and well.

I live in Devon too. I've been to the lake district once with my elderly parents, we stayed by Lake Windermere, in a hotel.

Ah so you are well and truly used to the Devon hills;)

The Lake District is awesome and I stay in Keswick, love the area.

I'm self isolating in the advice of my Dr, however in normal circumstances I would be visiting the gym twice a week, practising yoga and Pilates & running at least 5k on the treadmill. As you can imagine I'm really missing my exercise, especially as it keeps my joints mobile and reduces pain & stiffness. So I've taken to using my exercise bike, alone & in my garage I listen to the radio or a talking book, and do you know what I'm really enjoying it. It's a break from all the stress & madness around now. I follow up with a nice pampering shower which also helps with my feeling of wellness. ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

Lovely view. Keep up the good work! It is 4:00 am here, 68 degrees, and clear, so in a couple of hours, after breakfast, I hope to take my 3 mile walk through our neighborhood (mostly older people in town and patio homes) and back. Good day!

โ€ข in reply toStub007

Thank you and I will.

That sounds warm for 04:00 and you are up very early, what country do you live in?

Enjoy your walk and I bet it's lovely if people are up and about as you can chat from a distance.๐Ÿ˜Š

Ha ha, it wasn't that hill but the 3 hills I rode up were as steep but I'm stubborn and won't give in.

I don't particularly like off road unless it's a track which I then do enjoy. The canal path sounds good.

I bet your bike was made well.๐Ÿ˜Š

Nice wheels, Zoonie.

Just letting my porridge settle before taking my Government approved exercise which I will share with a household member (son). Bike ride in the Lincolnshire countryside. One short , steep climb and then a blistering 30+ mph downhill.

Loving it. Aren't bikes great!

โ€ข in reply toIanGordon

Have a good ride.๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Yeah, quality family time. Every time I looked over my shoulder, there he was on my back wheel. His 29 years verses my 67 - no contest.

Averaged 15 mph over 20 miles of mixed terrain. Not too shabby for an ageing hearty! (2 yrs post-OHS, AVR+CAD)

โ€ข in reply toIanGordon

Well I'd say you are doing very well. Of course no contest at all๐Ÿคฃ.

Nothing like exercise and attractive scenery. I had the aching butt problem and bought a prostate easing saddle. It definitely reduces pressure on the nether regions.

Wow. Well done you. Lovely picture. Whenever I have a bike ride I just go as far as my lungs will allow . I rode down to. the pub & back but was exhausted so next time its going to be just down the road & back

When I do go I. tend to leave it a week or two so that like before I get away with being asked if I was in the shower so I can say yes I was if mum tries to ring me saying she couldn't get through (because she's not allowed to come down & check

โ€ข in reply toSara_2611

Thank you. All exercise is good Sara so well done to you.

Well you've got it planned well, what they dont know doesn't hurt. Just be careful.

Stay safe and well.

Maybe post a photo of your bike? I want to see how it is rigged up.

I am using a road bike but only during dry and relatively warm weather. It is not suitable for wet conditions. I am assuming it might be damp now and then where you are.

โ€ข in reply todaveh121

Of course I'll post a photo of my bike. What I do have is a Trek hybrid and it's a lovely bike, I've had Trek bikes for a few years now. I also love hybrid bikes. Oh it certainly gets damp and the weather from the 3rd week in September right through to end of February was very wet.

I live in the UK in the West Country, where are you?

daveh121 profile image
daveh121โ€ข in reply to

Those are nice bikes and the hybrids really expand what is possible. My wife has one.

I bought a Specialized last year. We live rurally in Northern California on the coast and the roads are pretty bad.

The bike I bought has nice fat tires, and a spring in the handle bar stem which really helps absorb road vibration.

Since we are so far from town I canโ€™t use the bike for errands, so I just ride around for fun.

โ€ข in reply todaveh121

They are and I don't think I'll ever change the make as I love them.

So lovely to live rurally, much better than big cities. It's the West Country of the UK where I live and I also live in a rural area, so much nicer.

I know the bikes you mean, they do look good and are ideal for rural areas and tracks. I took part in a challenge in 2018 and didn't have any suspension on my old bike but was pleasantly surprised as I was fine but it did have a good saddle.

I use my fir fun and errands, our city centre, which is not very big is about 7 miles from where I live.

Enjoy your bike.๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

daveh121 profile image
daveh121โ€ข in reply to

I agree rural is the way to go. I think I will be able to ride tomorrow morning, no rain and due to be warm enough.

So for me it will be a good day! Enjoy yours.

โ€ข in reply todaveh121

Most definitely. I'll be on my bike today, weather is glorious here with 20c forecast, dropping to 13c tomorrow.

Thank you, you have a good day as well when it starts.๐Ÿ˜Š
