Government advice says "We are advising those who are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) to be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures.". It includes Over-70s in the list of those who are at increased risk but separates them from those with underlying health conditions, carefully instructing the latter group but leaving the over-70s with no clear advice on how far to take the measures. It's left me feeling guilty (as a very fit over-70) for letting people do my shopping! Should I do my own shopping carefully? And will Tesco let me keep my delivery slot on April 4th! I've been tearing my hair out trying to clarify the advice.

Hi Ada72,
Please don't feel guilty. One of the reasons that government has given us this advice is that we will be a huge encumbrance to the NHS if we expose ourselves to the virus, because we are much more at risk of having a life-threatening version of it. It's not that they are being soft and fluffy just because we are old and need looking after, it's to free up resources so that more of the dangerous cases can be coped with.
And it doesn't matter how fit and well you are, or feel, you could still become a victim and add to the workload.
So please let yourself be helped in any way that is offered, and rather thinking of yourself guiltily, think of yourself as someone who is pulling together with others to keep as much help available as possible.
Please have a lovely day and take care of yourself.
I felt guilty this morning having a bacon sandwich for breakfast which was irrational as I had bought the bacon ages ago before this kicked off so what was I feeling guilty over?
It's not like we had emptied out the whole shelf of it on purpose so no one else could have it which is reason to feel guilty as yes that kind of behaviour with the silly panic buying was extremely stupid and selfish leaving the less fortunate to go without and those who behaved in that manner are the ones who should feel ashamed of their behaviour.
I'm sure you will be fine with your delivery on 4 April.
Tesco are saying you can only order 80 items maximum though which is fair enough as that's fair to everyone.
Everywhere is saying its a maximum of 3 of an item per person which is fair enough.
I had to queue on Wednesday to get into Morrison's which is annoying but at least with queues it's fair as its first come first served.

I don't get a choice; I have to go out and shop, as I can't get a Tesco slot for love or money!
