Hi Steph

I followed the advice from other members of group. I cut out sugar as much as possible, so no biscuits, cakes etc. I have then reduced white carbs and replaced with wholemeal, quinoa, oats, brown rice etc. More vegetables, salads and limiting fruit. Some one suggested probiotics so I take these everyday with a vitamin boost - particularly the B group. In order to deal with the dips I have a set morning and afternoon break under 100 cals value. I'm trying to reduce portion sizes as well..... Needless to say I have good and bad days, however I am staying stable weight wise. I walk whenever I can and do some simple weight work a couple of days a week.

Good luck.

Unfortunately I was to I'll to do any exercise & put 3 stone over 10 months.

But in June I seemed to feel better. I swim twice a week, do Yoga with

My Wii every day, make sure I go for small walk everyday, joined Weight Watchers

Lost 1stone in 7 weeks. Also always take cover coated Steriods

As I believe these do not put yr weight on.

Hello Steph,

I joined Slimming World, and I must admit its not easy, but I am managing to lose weight. I am currently on 7.5mg Prednisolone and dropping on average about 6lbs or so per month.

Take care,

Karen.

They affect different people different ways. Higher doses are more likely to cause weight gain (eg for GCA rather than PMR). For some people they can actually cause weight loss. I haven't had any weight gain and have been on steroids for PMR for 15 months. But my rheumatologist warned it could happen and suggested taking a careful approach to diet. I I had some weight loss due to the PMR (one possible symptom) as I was losing weight for a while even when on steroids but as the PMR improved I stopped losing weight.

hi before i was put on steroids i was losing weight and when i started steroids the weight has gone on but i wasnt given any info about this so it was a shock when i was told how much i weighed i look like a hamster.

Hi Steph,

On the high doses my face altered a lot. I took on the appearence of Miss Piggy. We were on hols in Wales at the time and, like you do, taking snaps of each other. I only kept one photo of me. The one taken from about 10 feet away. I looked passable on that one. Don't worry, it all goes away once you get below about 10mg.

Hi Seph,

I have just gone into the directory to look at the photo of your son's wedding to such a lovely girl. How proud you must be.

Hope you're not so worried today. Easy to say, I know. Good luck tomorrow.

Hi Steph,

Thanks for asking about me. I'm not too bad, but my joints are playing up every day. I don't really know why. I dread it being RA, but it feels more like my tendons, which Kate says is a nice little pressy from pred. I'll have to wait till I see my rheumy in october for a diagnosis. I could always ask my GP, and if he doesn't know then perhaps he could contact my Rheumatologist for advice.

Now for you. It's over, at least the biopsy and I know you were dreading that one. Try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know, but, although these tests can be worrying, it doesn't mean you have a terminal illness. Try to stay calm and concentrate on handling your present condition.

Let us know how it goes and try not to worry.
