Hi Grace,

Can you give us more information? Did you drop from 10 to 7mg in one go? Can you describe what you mean by breathing problems. Do you have any more symptoms i.e palpitations, feeling faint etc.

I came down 1mg per month for 4 months and in that time i started having breathing probs, but not all the time. When i walk i cant catch my breath and when i lay down at night i have to prop myself up with 6 pillows because i cannot lay flat.Could this be due to fluid retention because i have a lot of fluid on my legs and i developed ulcers which leak alot.(i started my dose of pred at 45mg)

Grace, you really need to consult your GP and or Specialist about this. Only a doctor can diagnose what is going on here. We on this web site are not doctors and cannot diagnose medical problems, especially when they could be serious.

Please tell your GP about your inability to breathe at times. You really should get this checked out.

i agree - you really must get yourself to your GP asap. I get short of breath but I was already slightly asthmatic, so have inhalers at the ready. Your problem sounds much more severe.

I agree with the other posts that you should see your GP as soon as possible. All I would add is that at times the muscles in my rib cage seized up so that I found it difficult to breathe properly. I found it very frightening but haven't had a recurrence for some months now, thank goodness. Hope you get it all sorted very soon.

thanks for all the advise will see GP next week, have any of you also got alot of fluid from taking hige dose of pred. I also had to get a course of B12injections for 12wks has my B12 was very low.I was diagnosed with PMR and temorol arithritis 19 mts ago and was on 45mg of pred for 13mts has every time i came down of them i relapsed very badly and my esr went into the hundreds. i,m just taking everday as it comes its good to know i,m not on my own.

Hi Grace,

I really feel for you, I can only imagine what a struggle the illness must be for you. The high dose of pred will have made you store a lot of fluid. I had a lot on 30mg, much less than you have had to endure. Look at your salt and sugar intake. Cut out as much as possible of these two culprits. Your body cannot cope with either of them, so no added salt or sugar, only unrefined carbs. That means cut out the sweat stuff big time. I drink lots of water and find it helps my body to flush out the baddies from my system.
