Still testing covid positive after 8 weeks. 😱

I posted a few weeks ago re testing (every 3 days with new packs of 5 kits from boots !!!) and am still testing positive. No symptoms at all and only tested mid Feb because I had been in contact with someone infected. I still have none , am on 10 mg of pred , reducing slowly from 50 over a year ago for GCA . My big worry is I am due a hio replacement on 22nd April. Long awaited. I am sooooo frustrated and dread doing the test. I stopped wearing a mask weeks ago as I understand "dead virus" can still show positive. I hate the thought of surgery delayed. Anyone any thoughts on Hosputal outcome.

Can you ask your GP to get you a PCR test to see if that gives a different result. They could perhaps seek advice for you if you have no way yourself of speaking to the surgical team. Worth trying as you have been asymptomatic throughout.

Thank you Snazzy D. I have requested a phone consult with MyGP for tomorrow. The last thing I want is to be told a day or 2 before my surgery that it’s cancelled. I have read in various sites that long term pred use can cause dead virus to linger in the nose. I have only been using the Airflex Rapid tests from Boots (think my local pharmacy thinks I’m hoarding!!!!) …..will try with doc . Appreciate your response.

Just a thought, do you take anything orally near to the test other than food and drink? Perhaps doing it before tooth brushing?

No, I thought of that but the last 5 weeks, I have been very fastidious. Washing hands, blowing my nose , etc etc. Using various rooms in the house, different times of day ….I am so confused and concerned about my long needed hip op and not a symptom at all. Thanks again for your input …….

At asking just in case anything in your mouth is causing a false positive. Anyway, good luck with the GP

Hello there. GP is arranging a PCR test for me on Mon. She says it's then up to the surgical team 🤞

I recently had an (albeit emergency) operation and they didn't test me for covid but did do an MRSA swab.

Thanks…..Yes , I had an MRSA swab last week along with lots of other pre op tests. I have been in touch with my GP , who has arranged a PCR test for me on Monday. She thinks the rapid test is picking up DNA from 8 weeks ago. Hope you are recovered from your emergency op. Always a bit scary.
