Recently Diagnosed with GCA

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with GCA two weeks ago (March 2025) and have joined this forum to help understand all the overwhelming symptoms and feelings that I am experiencing. I had never heard of GCA and feel this condition will change my life - I am currently on a 2-year plan of prescription tablets - tapering the Steroids (50mg currently). Looking forward to reading and hearing from other members.

As an ex GCA, I’ll just say please don’t get fixated on the 2 year plan… GCA is likely to have other ideas on that score. 😊

Hi and welcome!

And to reinforce - don't get too fixated on the 2 year tapering plan. That is likely to be a conservative estimate, longer is very common and if you aren't off pred in 2 years it won't be anything you have done or not done.

Hello, like you I had never heard of GCA or LVV before being diagnosed last August. Unfortunately I have a rather arrogant consultant, who doesn’t want to discuss things and seemed to expect me just to agree with what he says. So I have found this forum such a valuable support as I’m sure you will. Drs and Consultants may know all the theories but the experiences of people who have lived with and managed this very strange illness have really helped me to better understand what I might be dealing with. I’ve learnt it seems we can all to have very varied symptoms and respond differently to the medications we are given. So if there’s anything you want to know, however trivial it might seem you will always find someone willing to help, give encouragement and reassurance by knowing you are not alone. My best wishes to you

I have replied to your Chat message, but have noticed recently that HU notifications from that are a bit hit and miss.. so perhaps you’d like to check it please.
