Blood clots in urine (Hematuria)

I have been on Prednisolone for about 3 years and have recently developed Hematuris - blood clots in the urine - I understand this can be caused by Prednisolone . Does anyone else have experience of this and if so I woyuld be interested in hearing of their experience and treatment.

Pred can irritate the bladder and it’s often worse with higher doses. It can make you more prone to urinary tract infections but again the larger the dose, the more immunosupressed you are, though it can become chronic. It isn’t clear what dose you are on. I fear you could get a variety of replies with different diagnoses and still be non the wiser for your own situation because haematuria has a number of causes. The only way you’ll find out is having it properly investigated.

Pred isn't usually associated with haematuria and to be honest, I don't think anyone should accept being on pred as the reason for them showing haematuria. It needs investigating properly. If other causes are ruled out, then maybe it could be due to irritable bladder as a result of pred but you can't assume that.

Are you on any new meds? I ask because I have been on pred for over four years with no such problem. Then I was prescribed terbinafine and got an unpleasant surprise one morning. Just something to rule out or rule in as a possibility.
