Partly due to the prednisolone my blood pressure has been increased and I have taken medication to try to bring this down,.
I have been a poor sleeper with the pmr/ prednisolone for years now taking the blood pressure pills in the morning. Surprise, surprise…..I take them now at night and sleep miles better which makes me function a lot better during the day.
Who knows, it might work for you! Success!

WOW !! OMG !!! Thank you so much for reporting this. Like you, Pred raised my Blood Pressure ( As well as my Glucose level ) and it also affected my sleep pattern and reduced my total amount of sleep each night. I am an annoyingly logical person and researched your link and found other highly reputable sources confirm this to be to be true. ALSO it reduces your risk of heart attack, heart failure, stroke or needing procedures to open clogged coronary arteries strokes. Thanks to you I will now switch from morning Blood Pressure Meds to bedtime. The Glucose level was easy for me to reduce as I was one of the lucky ones who was able to to combine more exercise with a reduced sugar diet . That removed my status as being Diabetic. I also reduced Salt but am now being told ( after my most recent blood test ) to INCREASE Salt in my diet as my Sodium levels are now too low. It's a funny old world isn't it ? 😀
And it has been decided that it doesn't actually make any difference WHEN you take your BP meds for BP control - they used to think it had to be morning.
To Kaaswinkel72 Who tells me that ? My wife for a start. lol But getting back to the well done ( on kicking the Diabetes into touch ) I don't deserve a pat on the back or a medal because I am lucky enough to be fit enough to do lots of excercise and that is something that a lot of people on here are physically unable to do. BUT it was kind of you to say. I am walking round with a smile on my face thanks to your post and the information it led me to. I think it was Napoleon who said " Know thine enemy" or was it Lord Wellington ? Anyway, he was right. The more information we can gather on what we are fighting the better. And thanks to you my army is now that much stronger.
Neither actually!!! It was an ancient Chinese general ...

Sun Tzu, a Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher, once said “Know thy enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles, you will never be defeated.”
Hi Kaaswinkel72I'm glad you gave found an improvement since taking the blood pressure tablets at night.
I've struggled with severe palpatations for several years now and eventually found I had consistently very high blood pressure. I'd had it on and off over many years, but it appears that these were the possible cause of my palpatations.
I've had several heart monitors on, but they've been unable to catch the palpatations. My GP thinks it is likely to be due to long term prednisolone use, and wanted me to come off them, but my consultant is very reluctant to come off the steroids, as am I, due to the potential issues that may bring, including more flares, despite being on biologics, and adrenal deficiency problems. I was put on amlodopine initially for the blood pressure, which I took in the day, but due to side effects I'm now on candesartan which I take at night.
My sleep had improved through other means, but it is good to know that this has made a significant difference to your sleep. Thank you for sharing xx
My paroxysmal arrythmia - which they also never found during monitors - was entirely due to the PMR, the underlying autoimmune disorder having damaged the electrical cells in the heart. It started about the same time as the first PMR symptoms, some 5 years before I was offered pred so obviously NOT pred. I suspect it rarely IS the pred but why change the habits of years of blaming pred for everything? He can blame it for the adrenal insufficiency - but now you need it as replacement therapy so if he stops it, he risks killing you off. I'd remind him of that!
I agree. My consultant basically said similar and that there isn't enough evidence to suggest it's the prednisolone which why my consultant has insisted on me having more tests.
I went down to 4mg, but felt the difference, so I'm now on a maintenance dose of 5mg, which my consultant said is fine. It's better than coming off it and causing potentially serious problems aside from the increased risk of flares.
Being proactive over our own care can pay dividends!
Dear WilfdogDo i understand this correctly and does yr consultant encourages you to stay on 5 mg pred. as a maintenance dose to protect you from having potentially serious problems incl. Flares?!
Hi Yes, she is advising me to stay on 5mg as a maintenance dose along with my biologics. She thinks given the length of time I've been on it that it could do me more harm than good to come off it.
At the moment, with 5mg pred, biologics and the supplements I take, which have without a doubt helped me, I am holding my own for now, although I have extensive damage, which plagues me.
Yes I too take Prednisolone 10mgs for blood pressure and I too take it at night. I generally have no problems sleeping. I go to bed at 9.30pm usually and then wind down quite slowly, listening to the radio.
