I feel I need to book a holiday and chill out for a bit - Is it ok to fly with GCA and is the insurance a nightmare now?

The insurance is no problem -just an extra £ or so -more interested in my osteoarthritis.
But don’t paperwork doesn’t recommend in first 6 months of treatment when GCA more likely to flare -so check with your medical team.
I flew mid and long haul (very long UK-NZ) when on lower doses -teens not 40mg will no problem whatsoever.
Just make sure you request special assistance when booking flights

Now you have posted there are loads of similar posts linked under Related Posts - do have a look. Insurance may depend on the insurance company and where you go - the USA will often be worst for obvious reasons. Many people find they don't tolerate heat well when on pred and can no longer sit in the sun - and you tend to burn easily on pred even if you never had before. And your endurance may be compromised - so not too much activity.
I wouldn't want to go a lot of places until I was well settled on pred and no signs of flaring. And as DL says - airport assistance is essential - even if you think it is a small airport!!
I had no trouble with GCA, getting my first policy when I was on 18mg Pred.
