Diagnosed with GCA and PMR back in march . Steriods ever since , on 5mg a day now... Is it safe to fly with GCA if still having treatment? Will it make the inflammation worse with the pressure? Not a long flight just london to Scotland

Flying
I regularly fly London to Scotland. I have PMR and a lot of GCA symptoms that have not been diagnosed. Don't have much trouble at all, one or two occasions I have had more pressure feeling in temples in the descent, but settles soon after landing. I'm on 4mgs of Pred and take Azathioprine as a steroid sparing drug. Hope this helps, enjoy your trip to Scotland
Hi Jan1961,
See my reply to DeliaGray on my post yesterday -update on virtual hug. Enjoy your trip! DorsetLady
Hi - I have GCA, RA and Sjogren's. Am on a reducing dose of pred and am now at 13mg, with Leflunomide at 10mg. Two years ago I had two pulmonary embolisms following a week's stay in hospital, which was thought to have brought on a DVT. I didn't fly again until this January, when I went to Tenerife with no problems. In May I went to Greece, again with no problems, and in September back to Greece, but this time my consultant wrote to my GP to give me two injections of Clexane, a blood-thinner, to cover my two flights. No problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone x
Like you I had reservations, but. Dr was happy. Went to East Coast USA in March and off to New Zealand next week...you cannot go any further than that! No worries at all.
