pain in upper stomach and back muscles

I woke up on Friday with terrible pain in my stomach muscles just under my boobs and going through to my back. As the day progressed it got so bad I felt really nauseous and actually vomited. Yesterday I felt up to taking extra pred and that seems to have helped. I think I have got it from pulling the plug out of my small Christmas tree on the windowsill, leaning over and tugging in a small space. Hubby is suffering from bronchitis si I thought I would be better doing it but it was a struggle . Then on Boxing Day I picked my 21 month old grandson up to stop him climbing the stairs (too wide for a stair gate where they were spending Christmas and fell over a dog.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do or is it just a matter of time.

Icing/heat may ease the pain - and painkillers. But I suspect, only time and avoiding movements that hurt.

That happened to me a while back. It even hurt to breath. I just lay trying not to move or breath!! It went away again slowly over two or three weeks. It was only really bad for a day or two though.

thanks, my trouble at the moment is I am not feeling hungry and haven’t eaten much, probably ate enough before it happened to keep me going for a while.

Oh, ouch…as much TLC as possible, and as PMRpro has advised.. 🌸

make sure you stay well hydrated...an infusion of fresh ginger in boiling water, or mint leaves, sometimes relieves nausea...but drink anything you enjoy (not alcohol!) very weak black coffee is my go to. Then have some light snacks...you'll soon be back to proper meals. Gently, gently. Hoping the pain eases soon.

It sounds to me like a chest infection that could be related to your husband’s and it could be compounded by the injuries. I would see what the doctor thinks.

I don’t have a cough or cold so don’t think it is a chest infection, also, unlike him I have never had a chest infection in my life. Thanks for your thoughts

are you sure it’s muscular? I was literally just listening to someone on the radio who described exactly what you describe but it turned out to be a heart attack. I don’t mean to sound dramatic, just wanted to point it out just in case. X

It is muscular and pain killers relieve it

Hi KJ. I know you probably think it’s muscular because of what you say you did. However I noticed you mention vomiting once and no appetite.

In October out of the blue I had the same pain, under boobs( midriff) and into back. My pain was during the night and early morning. I actually called 999 after the vomiting and pain hadn’t subsided. Long story short , I had an ultrasound and MRI due to symptoms, was admitted overnight and it was my Gallbladder! Gallstones I never knew I had, as apparently most people who have them are symptom free. I never ever had any symptoms before… An attack is called Cholecystitis, I am now waiting to have it removed. Pain lasted a couple of days but I was given IV antibiotics and sent home.

Do you feel it may be connected to food? Did you eat a heavy meal, hours earlier? Just something to bear in mind. Take Care Mx

No I don’t eat heavy meals any more and I ate lightly the day before. The pain started about 7 hours before the vomiting which didn’t last for long. I still feel nauseous when I get the pain but not vomited for a few days. Thanks for replying
