thank you so much to all of you that posted advice- I had the extraction- a gruelling process as the tooth crumbled and came out in bits. This was expected as it was previously root canal treated and the roots get brittle. Anyway I took an extra 1mg Pred that morning and felt ok. Only thing is the dentist has left one root behind (upper molars have 3roots) and has sent referral letter to an oral surgeon for it to be surgically removed 😩 At least now I know to increase a mg or two when the appointment is due

tooth extraction and pred
Glad the first stage is done - shame he hadn't referred you BEFORE having a go! Hope the appointment is soon.
Hi, I was refered to another dentist/Doctor several years ago after a tooth with a root canal had another abcess form. I was fed up with all the pain and just wanted it removed. However I was refered because I take alendronic acid... I am also on blood thinners and pred too but it was the alendronic acid that was the concern as it delays healing apparently. Anyway a visit to this other chap got it out after a tug of war. He was struggling so actually cut the tooth in half and took it out in bits, sent me out into the waiting room for half an hour biting down on a mouthful of gauze before letting me go. All turned out ok and the dissolving stitches held. I am under a different dentist in the same surgery and last year a crown on a post came loose, the dentist pulled it out and when she tried to put it back in failed to do so because the root it was glued into had colapsed and so that was the end of that. However the gap it left keeps getting food stuck in it and makes my gums sore so I have been refered to hospital this time as the gum will need to be cut to perform the extraction and all because of the alendronic acid. Sorry for the long story.
