I was out on Metformin in May just after my daughters wedding.A week later my knees hurt and swelled below my knees.I was on 7mg for 6 months.Thought it was pmg so I upped my dose to 10 for 10 days.Didnt feel any better. The only pain I have is swelling in knees aft taking metformin.I just looked up side effects of this drug and Iam thinking that is causing my swelling.Has anyone heard of this ?

Listed side effects of Metformin can be joint pain and swollen joints. If it gets bad tell your doctor as some people cannot cope with Metformin.

As piglette says, listed as a less common effect that is to be discussed with your doctor. But in general it says patients report fewer muscle aches so can be helpful in something like PMR. Everyone is different!

But I am a great believer that if something appears shortly after starting a new medication there may well be a connection. It isn't the only option - so ask to try something else.
