Morning all....Feels bit silly now I'm writing it down.

I had a phonecall from Dr's....

We have had your blood results. Yes I know I looked at them!

Dr said how do you feel?

Fine!

Are you sure.

Yes!

Well would you like to bring your appointment forward??. Well I'm in Monday morning. So why?

Ok..are you sure? You have some high counts...

Yes I'm suffering from PMR and on steroids!

Ok!....,if you change your mind just ring!

When I checked on line the Dr who looked at the blood remarked Thrombocytosis????

Then I'm thinking should I have gone??

Why not just say....the Dr would like to see you today!!!!

Frustrated and confused!

Impossible to say without seeing the actual numbers BUT - raised platelets (thrombocytosis) are a common effect of pred.

When is your appointment?

On Monday.....It just seemed strange....I've never had a conversation like that before and the platelets gave been high...

White cell counts was 16 and platelets were 459!

I am bruising very easily and having dizzy episodes but that can be pred!!

I think I felt bit vulnerable...

But thank you.xxx

Is that this week? The top of the normal range for platelets is 450 so it isn't that bad. Your white cells are higher than is usual even with pred but not outlandishly so, they easily go up with other things like a bit of a cold. The easy bruising and dizzy spells could be of concern but we all bruise easily on pred don't we!

What are the dizzy episodes like? Are you feeling any palpitations before hand?

I occasionally have palpitations...but never put the two together....The dizzy spells at first were just feeling off kilter....last week I didn't realise and almost walked into the road and hung on to someone's bin until the episode passed..

I put everything down to pred or PMR..

But I will mention it to Dr....

Thank you for your response.xx

Keep a diary, symptoms and times relative to one another. Dizzy spells like that need to be taken seriously.

I had dizzy episodes but all that could be identified on a single occasion that happened while I was having a 24 hour BP monitor, was that my BP plunged in seconds that coincided with the dizzy sweating attack. A few years later it was found I was having episodes of quite fast heart rate followed immediately by a few seconds pause in heart beat. And that was what caused the dizziness. It's fine if you are sitting down at the time - but it happened to a close friend when he was at the top of the stairs and he fell down them and broke his neck, now he is in a wheelchair!

Oh no.... The almost walking to the road did bother me.I will definitely mention to Dr

I did have a dizzy spell this morning whilst chatting to neighbours ...

I will start jotting it all down.

Thank you.xx
