Does anyone know the best anti-malaria tablets to take with Prednisolone, and whether taking anti-malaria tablets can cause problems at all?

Thank you.

Hello, whilst someone may be able to say they took a type of anti malarial with Pred with no problems, you really need to get professional information tailored to you and your travel plan. Antimalarials aren’t all the same and neither is malaria, with some strains being resistant to one drug but not another. Drug A may be ok with Pred but not much use against P. falciparum malaria which may or may not be where you are travelling. Your itinerary may mean you don’t need any in the locality you are in, in a country that has malaria. If you are on Pred, malaria may not be the biggest risk to plan for either. A travel clinic is the best place to go or failing that go to this website to look at your country of travel for good info and then ask a pharmacist. Where are you off to?

Hi, we are travelling to South Africa later this year and one of the areas we will be in could have risk of malaria. This tour had already been booked and mostly paid for before I started with PMR a couple of months ago. I will seek advise as suggested, thankyou

So from the website I gave you here is the malaria map of S.A. The Kruger Park is a popular tourist place that needs antimalarials I seem to remember.

From the same site is the SA specific anti-malaria advice page so you can see what type is advised

When I was in Ghana for a month and South Africa for a month I was on doxycycline as a prophylactic against malaria. This should work fine with Prednisone as the interaction checkers say no interaction. However you should consult your doctor.
