PMR,RA and diabetes.

I’ve just had a great appointment with my rheumatologist.

My PMR started April 2019 due to stress. I’ve had the usual ups and downs, with a couple of flares. I’m now on 3mg prednisone and 40mg Leflonamide. This last was doubled 6 weeks ago following what seems to be a Rhuematoid arthritis episode in my hands ( for the second time). I also have steroid induced diabetes.

So here’s the plan: blood test for antibodies for RA. A follow up DEXA scan. Super slow prednisone taper (I did once get down to 2 before a flare).

My lovely doctor listened to all my concerns and reassured me that I should eventually not be diabetic and that I will one day be free from prednisone. But that if it seems I have an inflammatory arthritis (RA) I’ll stay on the Leflonamide (to which I’ve had no apparent side effects)

I know so many people have had disappointing Rhuematology appointments, and I consider myself lucky in that I’m supported and listened to. Thank you Kingston hospital and Dr Wajed.

It makes such a difference when a doctor listens and talks about a plan for the patient as an individual. It seems that you have a good relationship with yours: long may it continue.

Quite unbelievable really. She said she was delighted I was on her call list after returning from maternity leave. All doctors should be this wonderful. I want to clone her!

What a lovely thing for her to say! It sounds like a mutual admiration society 🤗.
