Dizziness

I am down to 4mg. Yesterday I was very dizzy from the start, not feeling as though I could move safely. I had ginger tea and stayed in bed longer. In the afternoon I wondered if it may be linked to the adrenals and took some extra pred. by late afternoon I could move round safely. I often have a headache and this is more prominent at the moment. Still feeling woozy today. Am due to go on big trip next week, so I'm thinking of treating it almost like a flare to get me through. Any ideas?

I should add that I haven't been able to check blood pressure but on bp meds. Have been feeling the fatigue and quite stressful demanding few weeks, hence thinking it may be adrenals.

If on bp meds. , having “ stress” ,the warm weather, ? Forgetting to drink because too busy? Your bp might be low ? Who knows..

The first thing I would advise :

get yr blood pressure machine organised so you can monitor yr own blood pressure and “ tick that one off” before you start adjusting anything else. This is just what I would do. Success, take charge!

At this level of the UK it ain't warm weather!!!! I'm slightly further north but I'm wearing my winter level of clothing and contemplating buying a pullover as I left the one I should have packed at home!!!!!

If you are going south - I'd indulge in Sick Day Rules for the travel at least.

It was trip south that was so draining. Off to big north this time. Feeling sea sick on dry land - even considered stugeron!

Yeah - thought it didn't quite fit. Same applies now - at least for the travel. But if you are that bad - GP???? I do recognise the feeling after a major activity.

I have thought about attempting to communicate with GP. Wont do my travel insurance any favours - rock and hard place!

Hmm, feeling sick on dry land. It would be interesting if Stugeron works to help with the detective work. It might be an issue with your middle ear and you need a different approach. A look in your ear would see if there is any obvious pressure imbalance from the look of the ear drum. You might even have a miraculous recovery with the Epley manoeuvre or meds for labyrinth issues. You may have two issues for the price of one going on.

When my travel insurance comes up every year and I have the obligatory conversation with the medical assessment team for the underwriter, they are only interested in referrals to specialists and regular medication.

Thanks Snazzy. That's certainly food for thought. I confess I worry about the headaches. They were investigated about 18 mths ago after a really bad bout.

That's how I was when I had adrenal problems years ago. Simple test, if you increase your Pred does it all go away?

I am on 2 nd day of increased pred and has almost gone away - stinking headache remains.

That may well be the answer then as it sounds like your problems may be related to asrnwals not functioning yet and not enough Pred to compensate. I certainly wouldn't try and reduce during something that's strenuous like a holiday, I usually have to up my dose temporarily. It's hard work travelling, all the walking round sightseeing etc. When I'm trying a reduction I make sure I have a quiet few days at home with nothing in the diary, to avoid stress on the body.

Thank you. I'm not up to much walking round but really look forward to seeing different sights. Don't intend to do much beforehand!

Enjoy and remember pacing is essential whatever dose of Pred you are on, overdoing things risks a flare

UPDATE - I am on 2nd full day of increased pred - 6 1/2 instead of 4 and the dizziness has gone, apart from feeling slightly 'potential'. I even tried balancing on one leg! The heavy head ache is still there, and deep fatigue but it does suggest adrenals were being naughty

I'm not an expert here, but if you are taking a trip, I would up the prednisone until you get back home so that you can enjoy your trip. That is important ! It's probably the adrenals--I always felt off for a few days when tapering.
