PMR left my body probably @ 2 years ago however, I still have a few issues...My right hand has been very stiff and sore for awhile and then it went away. Lo and behold I came back from a trip and my left arm and elbow is so painful esp at night. It is so painful that it wakes me at night. Now one of my fingers has started hurting so much I cannot bend it and cannot really type with it. Help! Any ideas? Am I eating the wrong food? Does osteo arthritis flare up big time? I feel 100 (and am 'only' 67). Thanks in advance.

There is a form of arthritis called palindromic rheumatism in which a joint may become inflammed almost out of nowhere, it lasts anything from a few hours to a few weeks and then disappears again to reappear in a different area. It can manifest initially looking just like PMR - which doesn't affect joints in the same way.
OA can flare but the differing positions you describe doesn't really sound like OA - once it is painful, it tends to remain painful. I'm assuming that this is nothing like your PMR presented?
You always know! It does not feel like PMR. My finger is bent and super sore to try to straighten out (I cannot straighten it). My elbow feels different....hurts right at the elbow point but a sort of sharp pain and then aches especially at night. Volterol ointment helps for me to fall asleep but last night it woke me 3 x. Super annoying. I finally have a GP apt for next week (for what it will be worth). Thanks for your super prompt helpful response. You save me all the time.
Is the knuckle swollen and painful, or could it be a tendon problem? The fingers curl when a muscle just below the elbow pulls the tendons that run across the palm. The fingers straighten when a different muscle near the elbow pulls the tendons that run across the back of the hand.
The sore finger is on my right hand and my elbow problem is on my left arm. I took an icepack to bed and tried to hold it with my sore finger which helped. Same today - cannot straighten and hard to type.
