Good morning everyone I am having surgery on my leg with anaesthetic tomorrow morning & will be admitted at 7am with no food to be taken after 2am only sips of water. Can you please advise me as to best time to take my 8mg pred dose & can I take it without food. I have no idea what time I will have surgery as the operating list runs all day. Thank you ☺️

when I had my surgery to remove my parathyroid gland I took it with some yoghurt at the latest possible time the night before and then as soon as I had food after surgery I took more. Seemed to work OK for me. Make sure the anaesthetist knows what dose you are on. My surgery was the best I have ever had due to them. I felt brilliant where I end up on a drip and take forever to come round even on low dose anaesthesia

I would take it at the latest possible time for eating! As you note, it MAY be a long day before you can eat again so it will fulfill two purposes. My daughter had a knee procedure last week, she had to be there at 7.30 and it was well over an hour drive to get there but didn't get taken down until after 11,30am. The positive was she was able to get loads of e-learning done!

And as Sophiestree says - make absolutely sure the ANAESTHETIST knows you are a longterm pred patient.

All the best.

Thank you so much PMRpro & Sophiestree for your invaluable advice as always & I will certainly let the Anaesthetist know that I am a longterm pred patient 🙏
