Arms in sleeves.

We talked about this problem at my knitting club last weekand all had the same problem with arms getting stuck in the sleeves of coats etc. It all came to a head later in the week. I was getting washed when someone rang my bell. I struggled to put on my dressing gown. He rang the bell again then got fed up and went. I managed to take the dressing gown off and continued with my wash. A few minutes later he returned to have another try. I fought my way into my dressing gown again but failed. Eventually he gave up and went on his way. I found the parcel behind a plant later. My question was this. Why do I have this problem now with the same dressing gown as last year, and should I buy a poncho ?

Are you sure it’s not your PMR playing up…they may not be painful, but it does sound as if they are big stiff.

yes I think they are. And panicking doesn't help.

No panicking doesn’t help..,

Can you get them to leave it a safe place ? I have a small garden box which looks as if it might contain tools or empty pots along the side of the house -and get the courier to leave it there. So long as you make a note on the website it usually works quite well. Or a suitable garden ornament might do…

Problem is may couriers are paid on number of parcels delivered per day. .. so don’t want to take it away or worry about finding a neighbour unless specified on package.

As you say most are for OH, get him to sort something! 😳

Around us those delivering parcels just dump them on the front doorstep and do not bother to ring the bell any more. I think Covid was responsible for it!

What makes me laugh is the "how did the delivery person do" survey you get after I think well I don't know as I didn't see them 😆

I have a guy from Evry who rings the door bell and then waits for ages for me to answer. He then takes a photo of me. Quite creepy!

I'm assuming that not all your knitting club have PMR?

I have the ideal solution - I live on the second floor of a small block of flats so there is no point racing to go down, they are long gone. All they expect here is the door to be opened remotely, they pop the parcel inside, take a picture of it - currently the oldfashioned washstand with a plant in is favoured as unique - and send that to the recipient! You could invest in a doorbell camera?????

leave a note on the front door saying-I take a long time to get to the door. Please leave enough time.

As far as sleeves are concerned, I find that it is the panic to get the clothes on that makes putting arms in sleeves harder. Take your time.

Definitely a poncho job! x

I’ve had problems with clothes with PMR, especially anything that involves flexible shoulders! I’ve just found other ways. However, if skin is a bit damp clothing might stick more than normal.

Parcels - depends on delivery company. Unless you state alternative places on the original order, people have had all sorts around here: front door (so everyone can see), carefully put around the side (open to the elements & sends a photo by email of where), lopped over the fence (regardless of contents) or if it’s Royal Mail (UK), nicely gives to a neighbour & states in a message which neighbour (assuming writing on the message is legible)!

I have a fleece poncho with a hood. Bought it during the winter and it is SO warm. Just pop it over your head, arm bits appear quite magically et voila, you're set to go. Mine's purple with white stars all over. Conjures up a wonderful sight doesn't it? Or not ...............

A couple of years ago my missus lost a lot of hair after she had covid. So she ordered a wig from America. It was quite expensive, and took about 3 weeks to arrive. Anyway, when delivered, it arrived on a Monday (bin day for us is Tuesday) and the bright so and so put the box in the recycling bin. He/she didn't even leave a note, just binned the box and left without even knocking.

The following morning I was just about to wheel the recycling and garden bins out to the road for collection and opened the lids to make sure there was nothing in there that might cause the bin men to not empty each one. It was lucky for me that I did, because there on top of the rest of the recycling stuff was a box with my wife's name and address on it.

I took the box in to my missus to point out that she'd left her name and address on it. She told me she hadn't seen the box before. So then we opened it and found her brand new and quite expensive wig inside. Needless to say we weren't very pleased with the courier, but as it had arrived from the US, we had no idea who had actually delivered it, so we couldn't complain to them. Grrrrrrr!

Happily, my wife's hair has now grown back, and her wig has been put away for the foreseeable future. However, if possible I'd like to fit some kind of mat outside our front door, so that if someone stands on it, a voice tells them to knock loudly and wait till someone answers the door before they leave, or alternatively, leave any parcels behind the large flower pot to the side of the front door, but to knock before they leave, just in case.

Not what you're looking for?
