I thought you'd be interested in this article about a study from Germany which has worked out how pred works - and knowing that is the basis for developing other drugs to replace it.

Thanks for that. While speaking to my son last night feeling very ill, and pain all over, he asked, what exactly are steroids?? I said a drug that dampens inflammation basically, and helps me!! although it's not supposed to if having fibromyalgia!!Have been booked in next week for a pain clinic seminar, but hate to say, don't expect answers......next move, to see GP and Max........At least the sun is shining, how is the weather where you are?

Thank you for the article. I am going to give it to my rheumatologist. I can always count on the latest information from you. It was 85 degrees here in Atlanta, Georgia-sorry.

Thick frost in morning yesterday, rain all afternoon, cold, wet and miserable this morning.

PMRpro profile image

Could be worse I suppose - but on that note, the Italian forecast last night mentioned the white stuff for today!!! Wednesday is supposed to be the low point and then slowly, very slowly, the temp is to improve. Thank goodness - even disgusting on Lake Garda!

Very interesting that they are looking for alternatives. Not surprisingly, it’s a bit beyond me, but encouraging to learn about this work.

Thank you for posting.

Really encouraging to hear of yet another step forward in understanding how this disease both operates and responds to treatment. Thankyou for sharing.

Thanks for the share, interesting and hopeful for future developments with less side effects.

Encouraging to know that alternatives are being worked on; with less side effects as well. Hopefully, by the time it manifests, we won't need them and great for those who might. Thanks Pro. 😊

Interesting, and encouraging, though I don't understand At higher doses, it also inhibits the activity of the immune system, which makes it useful for medical purposes.

Our experience is that after a bit, even lower doses inhibit the return of immune activity.

Thank you for sharing this article. It 's always good to understand a bit more about how our immune system works and why/when it doesn't. Better treatments for future sufferers I hope.

Understanding how our systems work is the key to better treatments - as we are seeing in many fields. Encouraging.

thank you always helps my heart to know someone is working on a new drug or therapy which may someday help others our FDA kicks a new drug around for decades before approval but there is always hope… we had 70deg F one day over weekend and then it turned to several inches of snow and cold all week but sunshine this weekend again.. thanks again

Very interesting. It suggests too a reason why regular pain medications are largely ineffective in PMR . Here it alternates warm and sunny and grey and very wet, but we did recently have a complete eclipse of the sun which took my breath away !

My husbands dr gave him a drug called Kevzara. It’s FDA approved in the U.S for PMR. He gives himself a shot every other week and it’s working great. Fingers crossed. He is down to 1 mg of pred and so far feels great. If you can get Kevzara look into it. Good luck

As far as I know - not even on the horizon! And Prof Mackie doesn't expect it any time soon.
