3 weeks at zero Pred and about to travel

I’m delighted to be at zero (it’s almost 3 weeks) but I’m not complacent and I’m being careful to take good care of myself both body and mind. I’m driving to France next week for a 3 weeks holiday staying in 5 different places. I’m wondering whether you have any tips for me? Other than pack lots of Pred just in case!

Are you going to be driving far each time? Have you been driving longer distances during your PMR? Where are you going and can I come and join you with my campervan ...

If it is a new situation so you can't be sure how you will get on, try to be as flexible as possible. Don't assume that you will be able to cope with a journey and an activity on the same day for example. Remember, even 1/2mg of pred can be enough to support poor adrenal function and keep low level inflammation well under control - and travel and holidays, even if they are fun and enjoyable, are still potential sources of stress. Don't be afraid to take a small dose of pred if you feel ropey.

Thanks so much for your reply. My husband will be doing most of the driving and each leg of the journey is no longer that 4 hrs. We’re heading through Le Shuttle and down to Normandy and Brittany. You’re most welcome to join us 😊

I would think that should be not too bad - I still expect women to be doing driving because I do! Maybe aim for a good break somewhere during the journey so you don't get too stiff. I find driving more comfortable than being a passenger.

Thought perhaps you were heading for the south - the north is a bit cold for my liking yet!!! Have a lovely time.

I agree with PMRpro : take some pred with you and take a small dose if you feel you need it. I would incorporate rest days and ‘barely do anything days’ by listening to my body as I assume you haven’t had a holiday like this for a while and maybe have forgotten that it can be tiring.

(I and two other teachers took a large group of year six children to Normandy for a week’s school trip many years ago and confess to a nightly tipple of Calvados 🤫 when they eventually went to sleep. They were fascinated by the Bayeux Tapestry. I have enjoyed other trips (without school children) to beautiful Brittany and am envious. Have a wonderful time!
