I came across a family health dictionary the other day. It was written in 1979, so I thought it might be interesting to see what the advice on PMR and GCA (aka "temporal arteritis") was back then.
This first excerpt (see image) is for PMR. More to follow.

Here's Part One of the entry for Arteritis, which includes "temporal arteritis", aka GCA. The link to PMR is mentioned towards the end, and continues on to Part Two, which is to follow.
GCA, as described in a family health dictionary from 1979. Part One.
Hope they know a bit more about it now I've had it for 8yrs, but now have permanent stiffness and pain in left hip. I have found a Dr who is trying to find out what it is, but it is taking a long time to get all the scans done, long waiting lists!
Unfortunately, steroids can suppress the autoimmunity but not the march of time. Sorting out which symptoms are due to one, and which the other, is incredibly difficult.
As SheffieldJane said above, I wish it was just a few months. For me it's been 14 years and counting, and I'm still on 3mgs of Pred! I also agree with you that time is our enemy. It ignores everything and just carries on eating away at us till we finally shuffle off to perhaps another mortal coil. I just hope that when I do finally go, I leave the PMR behind, and start afresh. Dreams eh?
