Near the end?

Hi,

I'm Terry, male 75 yrs old and had never heard of PMR till I got it 2years ago.

I had a fall, flat on my back and about 10 days later could hardly get out of bed.

I suspected spine injury or bruising and struggled with it for about a month.

Went to see osteopath who suggested I had PMR and get blood test done.

High blood cpr followed by 15 mg of preds giving rapid improvement seemed to confirm diagnosis.

I quite quickly tapered to 5 mg preds but then slowly down to half mg 18 months later.

Have been off medication for 3 months. Still some inflammation but symptoms only about 10% of what they were to begin with. Also symptoms seem to very gradually becoming less. Able to do a lot more now. I lost weight before going onto preds. I'm back to losing weight again even though eating well with lots of protein. Loss seems to be mainly muscle.

That's it so far. Always suspicious of something else causing weight loss!

Just keep eye on symptoms - some get through PMR in 2years but not all.. so be aware yours may still be there plodding on. Although increased inflammation can be caused by many things not just PMR

If loss of weight was a factor before I’d be watching that as well.

Muscle loss may be hangover from Pred.

Just saying -keep an open mind.

Any unexpected weight loss should be investigated - discuss it with your GP.
