Why does your doctor want you off the pred? Is this because they say you do not have PMR?
They are not educated on PMR so they think my adrenal system will be messed up.
Why are you unable to take less than 7mg?
What issues do you have?
At that level it could be PMR or adrenals or both…so a bit more info might help us help you.
Because when I go lower my pain in my arms increases.
Okay..well that is typical of a flare - and it’s a great pity your Rheumy doesn’t realise that…
Do hope you can find another Rheumy that has more understanding of your illness.
As for adrenals, they do stop working temporarily when you are does above 7-8mg and for a long time… but for the vast majority of people they do start working again when you get below those doses.
It really is very worrying when they don’t seem to understand the fundamentals of PMR/Pred.
For whatever reason here in the US doctors hardly know about GCA and PMR. I know that I rely on all of you to give sound advice. I am so very grateful that I found you. Thank you.
Unfortunately in some places that does seem to be the case -but there are centres of excellence. However, if they aren’t close to you then you’re pretty much stymied.
But everyone has access to the internet to find out about PMR and/or GCA.. so no excuse for rheumatologists.
But glad we can help 😊
Hi thereAre you seeing a GP or a rhumitologist? If just your regular Dr ask to be referred and suggest a name. Meaning do research before you go as to the rhumitologist within a comfortable distance.
I use to give my rhumitologist and GP research papers to read. Maybe send him the new study
Hello, I’m working with Dr Pradhan, Rheumatologist in Spokane WA. Kaiser Permanente, Riverfront location.
I’m in Colorado and have an excellent rheumatologist here but that’s probably too far for you to travel. My understanding is that Harborview Medical Center in Seattle is an excellent hospital and I see that they have a fairly large staff of smart looking rheumatologists who cover the gamut of rheumatological conditions. Google “Harborview Rheumatology Clinic “. If you live close enough to Seattle to visit Harborview you might consider that. Best of luck to you…
