Phased return

3 weeks into my phased return have had to relearn alot of my processes but some have come back to me so improving slowly. Feel like I'm being pressured at work by my boss continually monitoring me and reminding me how long something should take me. Hopefully will talk with occupational therapist to express some of my concerns. Any advise please?

If you belong to a Union then seek their support. Your employer has a duty of care to you and by law has to facilitate a suitable & agreed phased return to work. He should not be pressurising you in any way, shape or form.

My headteacher and SLT were very supportive but I still had a union rep by my side.

I think your interview with Occupational Health will be very important. You have problems with steroids with brain fog and are going back to something you have to concentrate on. Occupational health should explain this to your boss and also that yo will need constant breaks as sitting for long times is not good for you. Please involve your Union if you are in a union.

Good luck to you

Just reiterating what I said in previous post -

You need to speak to OH and union rep and get get them to assist you with your boss -who obviously doesn’t really understand what you have and how it impacts your work.

Yes meet with OH on 7th of Feb. can't come soon enough now as feel I'm being pressured everyday. Back to full time now. Going to mention the pressure next week and maybe get reduced hours again. If I don't say anything I am liable to blow up one of these days not putting up with the bullying anymore.

Are you in a Union? You should never be bullied.

Hope all goes well and remember bullying is causing stress which is not at all good for you.

You need union support - join one if you don't belong yet. As Kendrew says - the employer is overstepping their place.

And that Occy Health talk can't come soon enough - they should be proactive not reactive in my opinion.

And your employer needs more education on your needs. At present HE is sabotaging your return by pressurising you. Maybe that is his agenda - but it isn't on.

My boss is a lady but definitely is trying to push me out so it seems. Going to mention the pressure km being put on next week with OH. I agree it's not on.

Hi Helliwelli12! I would advise you to log any conversations, emails, no matter how insignificant at the time. I hope things don't turn nasty (as they did in my case) but it is important that you record events in writing. Don't rely on memory. All the best!

Random901 is spot on - document, document, document!

Your boss may be female, but she is no "lady"!

Funny - I thought exactly the same!

As others have said you must speak to OH and join a union if you have not already done so.

Here are some of the other things that an employer should bear in mind, not just a phased return:

Your employer should try to make it easier for you to return to work. This could include:

finding you other work, such as light duties, part-time work or another job

making adjustments to the workplace to help you do your job if you have a disability

An employer only has to make a reasonable effort. What is reasonable will depend on:

the size of your employer - a big company will be expected to do more than a small one

how easy it would be to make the changes

how expensive it would be to make the changes - this includes costs like extra training

If your employer refused to make reasonable adjustments to help you return to work, you might also be able to make a claim for discrimination. (In the case of dismissal)
