Here’s an odd one for you all (and not for me this time, but I worry - 😏)
my husband got his blood test results last week. All the various results are grouped separately and in some areas it says “borderline: need to speak to the doctor” when those particular results are all within the correct ranges. And the gp never mentioned it when he spoke to my hubby - and my husband never asks questions as much as me😂
Has anyone else come across this? Not sure if the gp concerned is a new kid on the surgery’s block….
Thoughts would be much appreciated.

I think they choose a phrase scroll down to it and then hit go. I suppose if they don’t scroll down properly they could get an earlier or later phrase, so it may be finger problems if they look OK. I had one GP who said my CRP reading had gone down, I pointed out that it had gone up. She then said, but only by a small amount. I pointed out it had risen 60%. Perhaps they don’t understand figures!!
Some were well within the range, that’s what I can’t understand.
our usual gp would normally just have put “borderline: no action required” if the readings were close to the edge. But a lot of these latest ones were all pretty good, apart from two or three.
Well my hubby is having repeats done in three months, but I’ll no doubt have to remind the surgery that we need it doing. They’re not the most proactive…😏
Yes, I have. When my results come in, they are reviewed by my GP, who is not surprised that some of mine are often borderline, as I have a lot of medical issues. Then he will take action to repeat if necessary, but often it’s not. You say the borderline ones are well within the limits, so I’m not sure that would worry me. Perhaps I’ve misread your post! If you are concerned, suggest you contact the surgery.
Thanks Pixix. I might just challenge the surgery about it, as they often make errors on our online notes!
I was just baffled why the doc would put “borderline: speak to the doctor” when the results were ok. Perhaps I’m being too pedantic and need to get out more😂
Just a thought…are you sure your doctor wrote that? When our results come in the notes like that are put there by the blood results lab, I believe, & are added automatically, depending on the result. Then my doctor reviews them & decided if he needs to take action. Guess I’m wrong! I had one last month ‘borderline, speak to nurse’, but I didn’t need to do anything, it had just been flagged up (I assumed by the hospital lab when results printed at hospital lab!!) I may be totally wrong, but always thought they arrived at my surgery with those notes already on them, to help Dr’s review them easily!! I don’t sweat the small stuff nowadays, tbh, I’m too busy, have 4 consultants to keep track of, numerous appointments & tests…must go see if neurologists letter has arrived at surgery, now you’ve mentioned ‘stuff’!! S x
Lab reports usually just flag "out of range" and it is automatically done by the computer. Comments would be done by a receptionist/non-medically qualified member of staff.
Thanks, I thought the labs flagged the out of range. The comments are always precisely the same, which usually means they are done by computer these days!! I often get ‘abnormal, but expected’ on my results…but no action needed! S x
But ‘sweating the small stuff’ is bad for your mental health, & wastes energy, when we haven’t got much!! I’m not telling you how to live your life…but I want you to be happy & relaxed…that’s the way to a happy & healthy life! S x
Oh, bless you Pixix; I’m absolutely fine. Honestly!
I long ago realised life is too short to worry unnecessarily, so I try not to fret too much - if I can😊
I (we) enjoy our life and look forward to things all the time. (PS: I must tell someone: I’ve found out today that we’ve been allocated Wimbledon tickets - on the last day (men’s finals). So excited….)
I’ve just had a Quick Look at your resume. My: you’ve certainly got a lot on your plate. Heather. x
That made me look! It’s quite out of date, I need to add trochanteric bursitis & orthostatic hypotension! Excellent news re wimbledon, that’s unbelievable! Mens finals!! Hope you’re both well enough to go! Yes, I’m disease collecting, up to 11 now, & heading for the Guinness book of records! S x
