Someone has recommended Collagen supplements to help treat tennis elbow. Does anyone know if it’s safe to take with Pred (currently on 0.75mg)?

I have been wondering this too. Let's hope one of our friends here has some experience to share! Best wishes.

There s no medical evidence to support the use of collagen although it is claimed it improves skin elasticity. I can't see why it would help with tennis elbow - which is just a name for elbow bursitis and can be part of PMR where the PMR causes the inflammation rather than the repetitive strain of playing tennis.

And this guy agrees with me!

Thanks for responding……..and for the link which is interesting. Having rested for 3 months I’m just desperate to return to sport again. I’m a fencer and (rightly or wrongly) have continued to train during my 3.5 year PMR journey. Overtraining for a competition last year was too much and I suddenly developed tennis elbow mid fight!

I will always wonder if it was linked to PMR in any way 🤔

A combination of the two I suspect, One of the things we warn about is overdoing repetitive actions because that plus PMR often leads to trouble. I had a lot of forearm pain with PMR - which improved with pred. Before I could barely pick up a cup of tea (or glass of wine!)!

I have had extracorporeal shockwave therapy for hip bursitis - it also works for other forms of bursitis so it might be worth looking to see if there is a practitioner that offers it near you

Yes I think you’re probably right about it being a combination of the two. Previously PMR hadn’t affected that area and was limited to shoulders and upper back.

I would consider not being able to lift a glass of wine a serious problem 😂

I haven’t heard of extracorporeal shockwave therapy but will look into this, thank you.
