New Year, old me??🤞

Happy New Year everyone! I’ve been on my PMR/GCA journey for just over 5 years & I am hoping that 2024 see me back to “normal”! I’ve been on 0.5mgs Prednisolone for about 2 months now & had no problems when reducing from 1mg, so today I’ve taken a leap of faith & taken none! I’ll do it gradually & if there are no reactions, it could be “it”! Wish me luck folks! I can’t thank everyone here enough for the information I’ve received which has helped me so much on my journey.

It might well be! Time will tell. Do keep your Pred to hand when out and about in case you have some sort of stressor that requires an unusual amount of cortisol which you adrenal glands might not be able to produce yet. You won’t know until it happens. Good luck!

I would have been at zero pred today after a long slow taper down from 0.5mg if I’d had your courage. A few more days and I’ll join you and we can compare notes 😀.

Hi Lyndaki.I also have been 5 years with PMR and like you I feel I am at the end of the journey. Currently on just 0.5mg of pred and reducing to 0.25. By next month I shall be reducing from 0.25 to zero. I find that I am quite well with no stiffness but I have to admit to some nervousness having tried twice before to get to zero. The difference this time is the very slow reduction and the complete lack of any stiffness in the mornings. Good luck and keep some pred in reserve, just in case!

Thank you & good luck to you too! I haven’t experienced any morning stiffness for some time so that’s why I felt it was time to try a slow reduction to zero. Day 2 (I took none yesterday but 0.5 today) & still no stiffness but am quite tired…but that could be reaction to a busy last 6 months, & a late NYE! I will see how it goes!

I’m in an almost identical stage, 4 yrs PMR reducing from 0.5 to 0.25mg, almost done. Next step 0.25 to 0mg. I try to carry a packet of Pred when I’m out of the house, just in case.

You are where most of us want to get to in our journeys. Good for you! I do hope you finally get off of pred completely and your condition is in remission.

It’s always inspiration when I read posts like yours. Do keep us updated.

Good for you Lyndaki!! Very encouraging in all of our journeys to reduce. I am 3.5 years into PMR and recently took what I considered a "leap of faith" going to 2.5mg. LOL I will have more courage now after reading your post. Problem is though, at 81, trying to decipher between overused out of shape muscles or PMR creeping back in. LOL

Thanks…& I know what you mean! What’s age related & what’s PMR?!🥴😂

hi Lyndaki! Well done to you on your travels. Sorry to be a misery, I personally didn’t take a big step. I reduced down to 0.25mgs for a further 3months. Then down to Wednesday and Saturday for a further month, then on Christmas Day took the giant step. Pills sit there in case of stress arrival. Like you, thrilled I found this forum, friendship and brilliant advice at the ready. Thank you forum. Meanwhile hopefully two more of us on the smiling success story.

I’m waiting to see how things go but might try the 0.25mg if it’s too big a jump. Fingers crossed all goes well with you & yes, hopefully a pill-free 2024!
