5am -6 am nightly stomach ache

I have had PMR for 3 years now on 2 mg PRED. Only light morning stiffness in hips and glutes sometimes. To relive nightly stomach ache need to get out of bed and later use toilet. No problems for the rest of the day.Gastrologist has given clean bill of health in the bowel/stomach area after CT/MRI scans. Problems getting response out of Rheumatolgist. Can PRED cause bowel irritation at night?

Not something I have ever come across to be honest. However - rather than me writing about it - this might be useful:

It seems to suggest it might be worth trying a course of a good probiotic - a good NHS consultant recommended VSL3 - not cheap but you don't really need it ongoing, just a course every so often,

Cheap daily tablets often have nothing in them!!!!

What time do you take your Pred?

I would experience abdominal/ bowel pain if I took mine, even Entric coated without Lansoprazole.

Hi, late reply I know, but I get terrible night time stomach ache if I strain my stomach muscles in any way, and I often do not realise it until I start to have terrible stomach ache that evening, which goes on into the night. Could you be straining your stomach muscles in any way, however slightly, which may be contributing? Have you started to do something which you previously had not done which involves using your core muscles or stomach muscles more than normal?

Hi Thanks for your suggestion. I dont have a problem until I have been sleeping for about 5 hours, then at about 5am it starts to ache. If get up and walk about it relieves it. I am fairly fit doing pilates twice a week and some light gym work, no strains. Neurologist does not think there is a connection to PMR.
