Have successfully tapered my pred. Down to 7.5mg but recently seem to be getting a lot of stomach cramps/ pain after eating. Anyone else noticed any differences with the bowel. Many thanks in advance

Anyone have any issues with stomach cramp/ pain ?
Hi there. Sorry to hear this. Will you give us some more information regarding any other medication you may be taking, please? There is very little on your profile and the more we know the easier for other sufferers to respond.🙂
Thanks, only taking lansoprozole, alendronic acid (once a week ) and a calcium / bit D tablet. Nothing has changed, the tapering seems to be going well just wondering if It were a common side effect.
I see. Were you prescribed lansoprazole because of stomach issues or to prevent them? Lansoprazole inhibits the production of stomach acid which you actually need for a variety of reasons including, I believe, to aid digestion. There are others here who have experience and will advise, I'm sure. Sorry I can't be of more help.I'm pleased for you that the Pred tapering is going well.
Really is impossible to say anything sensible without more info I'm afraid. Are you taking omeprazole or something similar? Has anything else changed? Have you any other diagnoses?
I am experiencing similar symptoms. I had a recent internal and external pelvic scan. My doctor thinks I have Pelvic congestion that is causing IBS and cystitis symptoms and I am awaiting a gynaecologist referral. My Rheumatologist is unable to say whether this is connected with my PMR/GCA/LVV or medication. I am currently on 7 mgs of Prednisalone. The pain is fairly constant, particularly in my right lower abdomen. It is basically varicose veins in the pelvis.
Although I may be totally wrong,I would have thought the chances are that as you have been taking pred for a while it is due to something else.
Pre diagnosis one of my symptoms was stomach issues and after one scan or another (having had 20 in total I don't rememberwhich) one of my lists was nodules on my intestines, as well as liver, lungs and parathyroid. The stomach ones disappeared quite quickly once pred was started but now I am tapering I do get the same symptoms and so watch my taper at that point.
I guess if it's new for you it might be something different.
I was prescribed omeprazole but never took it, just making sure I ate before pred. Although it is still on my list of meds online.
Hi there, yes, I was on pred for 4 months before my stomach problems began, pain, discomfort and bloating followed by bouts of diarrhoea and loose stools (forgive me for this but in all consistencies and colours). Wouldn't settle so tapered off pred and had loads of tests including CT colonoscopy, nothing significant found. Now have some food intolerances and less of an appetite so pred really affected me. Sad thing is my pain is back so looks like I will need to take it again. Seeing a rheumatologist on Tuesday.
