I have been taking pred now for 10 years this Christmas for PMR now down to 5 mg for the last month should my adrenals be waking up yet or is it wishful thinking? This is the lowest dose I have got to in the last five years reducing dsns method.

Do you feel that they are not yet working?

5mg is still enough to make them sluggish but as so to how much depends on the person. Sometimes one can feel fine and with good energy levels but add on a bit of extra activity or stress and one can come crashing down. How are you doing?

They probably are working a bit [if they weren’t working at all you’d know] but certainly not to their full potential- have a look at this -

Difficult to say - they don't "kick-in" though, they wake up slowly and the ability to produce cortisol depends on there being not enough artificial steroid present for physiological function. Some people find it a smooth but slow process - other find it really hard and fight with the deathly fatigue.
