Early morning deep ache

I have had PMR for nearly 2 years or at least have been diagnosed that long and after higher doses and a bit of fluctuating, I am down to 7and a half mg Predisolone.

Most of the time I am fairly ok and though a bit stiff sometimes can do a walk of 4 or 5 miles even with a few moderate hilly bits.

Quite regularly I am woken up at approx 4 am by quite a severe ache in my left buttock muscle and in my lower left leg. Stretching out does not ease it, and neither does changing position.

It does fade off as I seem to eventually drop off again and wake normally about 7. Does anyone else have this early morning ache?

I sometimes have an ache deep in my hip but it does improve by the time I get up. No idea why though.

It might be piriformis syndrome. That’s how it gets me. I do a lot of walking and it is aggravated particularly because I take short steps fast and I was advised to lengthen my gait amongst other things. There is a lot online about a piriformis test and exercises. Here is a bit of an explanation

I seem to have odd leg aches at night too. I seem fine during the day. I assume that is because I am more active and not lying down.

Yep, woken everyday at about 03:30 - 04:00 with a real deep pain in my hips and although it really hurts to move I have to. I do manage to get back to sleep but it’s more like drifting in and out and having to toss and turn.

Yes! I have had this all along coinciding with my traditionally reported PMR symptoms. )I was finally diagnosed feb 2023 but have had PMR triggers by having Covid Nov 2020). I was just describing this pain to my husband. It’s been awful. I also have it in my arms. It feels like a terrible deep ache radiating down my left lower leg and my right arm. My buttocks also. It doesn’t seem to be a recognized part of PMR and prednisone doesn’t help. I have found iv Ketamine infusions help and also avoiding meat and sugar. Hope that helps.

I have the early morning pain. Sometimes I can hardly walk at first. I have been on three mgs of pred of late. I have been taking one mg at night and it appears to help the early morning pain. May impact sleep sometimes though.
