Has anyone used infrared light for pain relief?

A friend has recommended an infrared lamp to ease neck pain. I have been given exercises by an NHS physio and the pain is improving but I want to speed up the process. I’m looking for a private physio but the one with the best recommendation seems to have no capacity for new patients. Is infrared light good and can anyone suggest a lamp?

Non-invasive Infrared Therapy can bring fast-acting and effective relief from shoulder aches, pains, and stiffness. There are quite a lot of different options on the market including ones that wrap around the shoulders. Type in “infra red therapy” into Google and you should get more information.

Does it also work on PMR-type pain?

I can’t see any reason why it shouldn’t give relief.

I used a plain old hot water bottle in the 5 years pre-pred. It helped at the time, as papadapdpp says below

There is something rather comforting about a hot water bottle. I do like the scarf thing I can put in the microwave and smells of lavender though too.

Used on SI joint evils this morning, magic!! But not a pleasure in summer here! A cheaper alternative to the heating in winter - in conjunction with a nice woolly blanky ...

Having an autumnal interlude today - should be back to late summer on Sunday. But today - damp dark morning was a bit of a shock!!!

Damp isn’t the word. At least I don’t have to water the garden.

Been disgusting here but not that wet, only 1/3in. Been well over an inch further down the valley. There is a Evening at the Top of the Mountain tonight, That'll go well - NOT!

You can surf down the waterfalls from the Top of the Mountain!

I use a far infrared wrap from Amazon. It gives relief, but when the wrap is off, the pain returns.

Hi Agavegirl! Yes, I used an infra red lamp for 10 minutes for just four occasions on my right arm. It was after my second Phitzer vaccine when the guy really hurt me! Not sure whether he slipped but from that PMR developed and we all know how this feels. One year later vaccine spot was still bothering me and I read on this wonderful forum about infra red. Now we have the chuckle part, was going to buy a lamp then realised I have a pig lamp for use on newly born puppies, so fixed it up and pain left me, never to return. When pain has been rough on my back I have used it and found it really helps. Keep smiling.

There is published information on infra red light and pmr that explains why it is counter effective. If I remember rightly and paraphrased the reason is that it causes activity at michrocondia level that stimulates the auto immune response which the drugs are dampening to control pmr inflammation. The info is on the net but takes some finding. Only 1article. I also though it would be a good idea and have a professional lamp so tried it. Wonderful pain relief that day. Pmr flare up the next. Am inclined to believe the article was correct. I am however trying hyperbolic oxygen treatmentvthrough the ms charity group who are very organised around alternative therapies.
